Need Advice re: Campgrounds in Northern Georgia

We are planning to be in Northern Georgia and SE Tennessee the first two weeks of Oct. Would appreciate suggestions for campgrounds with electric hookups as well as sites to see and visit. We love history and scenic areas--will be towing a 29' Jayco with a 4x4 Dodge Diesel pickup. Thanks in advance for your help.

We fell in love with CLOUDLAND CANYON State Park at the I59 Trenton, GA Exit. This is up on the Lookout Mtn and is a very nice layed out Camp Ground. Beautiful during the fall leaves...

Has trails and canyons with waterfalls...

Camp store is great with another store just outside the main gate...

We always stay on the WEST RIM side which has the camping spot with Patio Fences around them... Really neat...

  • We love Unicoi State Park near Helen, GA. Besides the little tourist town of Helen, there are easy drives to Tallulah Gorge, etc.

  • Old Stone Fort in Manchester TN. Nice little park right off I-24 half way from Nashville to Chattanooga. Near to Jack Daniels.
I'll 2nd Cloudland Canyon. Hour from Chattanooga.
Fort Mountain State Park Chatsworth, GA Very popular in fall. Close to the Apple festival in Ellijay GA. Unicoi State Park & Lodge, Helen, GA. Or Vogal SP Blairsville.
In TN Fall Creek Falls, Cumberland Mountain
  • We like Vogel State Park. In Cherokee NC we stayed at Happy Holiday RV Village. Not fancy but we got a back in site on the creek and loved it. Drive through Smoky Mt Natl park, visit Cades Cove. Asheville NC- Biltmore House $$.
Near Atlanta we like Old Federal Corps of Engineers Campground on Lake Sidney Lanier in Flowery Branch GA - water & electric only with dump station.
Lots to see and do in Chattanooga. We stay at Holiday TravL Park. Look up all the things to do on Trip Advisor.
  • Do a Google search for `_______ tourism' and put the state, city, area or whatever in the blank space and read what the experts recommend.

We also love Unicoi...it does have some full hook up sites.
  • Not to hijack the OP's post, but for those of you who have been to Unicoi, I've heard it is tight spots, and narrow roads to get in. But, when I go to the site, they talk about 40 ft spots. So, is it a tight fit, or are roads easily navigable, and decent size spots?

Also, looks like the only way to check if there are spots available is via phone. Trying to make reservations on the website, it takes me to cabin/room reservations only.

It is tight, too tight for us in a 40 footer and quite steep as well. Also take Black Rock Mtn SP off the list if you have a rig much bigger than a pop up. Very narrow and very steep. In Mountain City just north of the CLayton on US441
  • X3 on Cloudland Canyon Georgia State Park.

Both statements are true. Though sites 30-35 in Unicoi's Laurel Ridge section are not so bad for the longer rigs and Unicoi's roads can be navigated by bigger rigs - BTDT.
