TX Gulf Coast insects in winter

We have been going to Texas gulf coast for 10 years. Normally go for just 2 to 3 weeks in late February and early March. I have only ran in to bad mosquitoes one time in a sort of swampy area not right on the coast. Most places on the coast have been almost mosquito free and no other irritating bugs. This year we were in the Rockport area with no problems.

We only had one winter where the mosquitoes were bad, and other than that, no real problem. Never had an ant problem, and never had a problem with no see 'ems. There is usually a nice Gulf Breeze, so I think that helps with the mosquitoes as the previous poster stated.

A steady breeze off the gulf solves any mosquito problem

I was in Rockport three years ago when they had several days of freezing weather. Seemed to kill the bugs. This year I was in SE GA and the noseums tried to eat me alive. Never had much cold weather and the bugs were thriving.

True story,

Spent the month of December in Rockport, right after it rained 12 inches (yes 12 as in one foot.) The first week there were tiny mosquitoes everywhere, second week I was swatting at them, third and forth week it was a blood letting as soon as I left the MH. BTW, This is from someone from MN, we know our mosquitoes.

I mentioned this to another snowbird/fisherman (we were fishing at the time) that those 12 inches of rain must have created the current mosquito problem, and that locals were telling me it has never been that bad before. His reply to me was the locals have been telling him the same thing for the last three winters (since he's been coming to that area) and he was going somewhere else next winter because he was sick of it. I decided to move on, and not waste any more time there after his statement. YMMV

depends on the weather during the summer and how warm the winter is… this year i didn't notice any, except the ants. which you can get a bag of granules to spread around to keep them under control..

Very few insects except ants which can easily be controlled with powder or spray.
