Ceiling mount TV bracket

Now that I finally got that big CRT out of the overhead cabinet, I'm ready to mount my flat panel TV.

I'd like a mount that I could mount either on the 'ceiling' or the 'floor' of the cabinet -- that way I can mount it on the strongest part of the cabinet and also not be so picky about the arm lengths.

Has anyone mounted one that way?

A good alternative will be for me for install a vertical false wall to mount the bracket to, but I'd prefer to find something where the mount could go right on the floor of the existing cabinet.
  • Winnebago uses a nice fold down ceiling mount...Don't know where you would get it from, though.
  • videosecu.com has a good selection of all types of TV mounts. Their ceiling mounts are here.
  • Only thing about using the original base that came with the TV, ours was a center mount, with just one leg. Lots of the new ones have legs on both sides, might take a bit more thinking. If you can get it to work, leaving it on its base is a much more stable mounting than a back mount. Ours has made at least 20K miles so far, with no problem.
  • Just get a cheap articulating mount and you're done. Attach it to whatever solid wood you can find.
  • I was able to just leave the new tv on its base, and let the original supports take the very much less weight. I did take a hacksaw and cut off the part of the base that extended in front of the screen, then drilled a couple of holes in the rear part to hold it in place. Had to add a couple of pieces of plywood to adjust the screen height to where I wanted it. original cabinet front frame supports the front edge of the new tv. Weight is on the original supports, and a rear strap holds it all in place. Looks like it was designed that way.
