Patio light hangers for electric awnings

I have a dometic electric awning on my rv. I have been toying with the idea of making a rod of some type to hang our patio lights from rather than hooking them to the valance of the awning. Occasionally I have had to quickly remove them when a storm comes up. I would like to be able to just roll the awning up from the dryness of inside the rv. Without having to remove the lights.

This is how I did mine
First I replaced the bolt on each of the arms with an eye bolt with a jam nut. Between the two eye bolts I used picture hanging wire connected to a snap connector and turnbuckle on each end. I tried rope/twine but it stretched too much.

I think this might work....Thanks for posting this....

After tightening the turnbuckle, not too tight, I'm able to hang the lights. I'm able to retract the awning without removing the lights.

Go to an office supply store and pick up a pack of name tag clips with the clear strap that will wrap around the wires and snap onto itself. The clips are easy to clip to your awning valance and can be taken down very quickly.

That is what I do now and ocassionally I get soaking wet taking them down...I am wanting to be able to roll up the awning without taking them down...

  • The average awning is getting longer.
Velcro comes in different strengths. Even if it didn't increase the number of strips.
Stick the lights to the awning tube with velcro of enough or strong enough strips to support whatever weight.
Still have to go outside but the hooks etc on the velcro and velcro could just zip down.
Might not be fool proof but it's an idea.

Yes, the grandkids love it when I put them up...

    LED strip lights.

Judging by the posts these do not work well outside.....What I am looking for is a way to hang my Ice Cream Cone lights in a way that I can roll up the awning when a storm comes up without having to remove them.....
