Progressive Industies EMS-HW50C Install

So since I had the day off, I thought I would do some mods. I was going to replace the MaXxAir roof vent with a MaXxAir II that is silver. But when I was removing the original one, I saw they screwed it to the roof. And I didn't have any caulk, so that mod will have to wait.
So I have had my EMS for a few months and never got around to putting it in. Well, today was the day!
I removed the wood panel and the breaker cover below it. It's a rats nest in there! Wires everywhere!

And after a quick trip to Lowes for some 6 gauge wire (man that stuff is hard to position!) I actually read the directions and wired up one side. I found a nice board that worked great for mounting it inside the panel.

Next I wired up the other side and fired it up for testing before I stuffed it inside. 126 Volts, looks good.

Now it is mounted inside and I had to relocate the Fireplace outlet.

Now I just have to wire up the main breaker and I straightened out some wires behind the panel while I was in there.

And lastly I drilled a small hole for the communication wire to the LED display. I used velcro to attach the display and everything works great. The bright LED's are behind the door, so they don't bother anyone at night.

  • Thanks! It took a while with the two trip to Lowe's but I am glad I did it myself. Now I know how things are wired on my panel and all.
  • I need to get mine installed this spring. I have made up the jumper wire and after having a 30a unit in my previous trailer I wasn't expecting any surprises. I fought the wire on this one and nearly bent some internal electrical components trying to get those huge gauge wires through the coils. Its going to be fun running the wires into the panel...but I shall chose a warm day and crawl into my hatch and get it done.

Thanks for the write up...I am inspired.

  • Go for it! You'll get it done. I probably had mine 5 months before I installed it.
  • For sure, procrastinated on the EMS and JT stabilizers. I did all the easy mods first then ran out of steam and just went camping. For sure I will get them done in May.

  • It's nice that you put the display behind a door. That thing flashes a new message every second, all night long, even though you really only need the information at set-up. No way to turn it off, either.
  • I had the same thought, running the wire to the inside would be a chore and I didn't think I would like a box flashing inside all the time, especially at night.

But I wanted to mount the EMS inside of my electrical bay.So this is what I did,I attached the remote to the inside of electrical bay door using industrial strength Velcro. That way I can see it when hooking up and if anything goes wrong I can open the door and read the codes.
    Worked out very well.
