While hooked to shore power the battery (per monitor) is fully charged. After a days travel, the monitor shows half drained. It is my understanding that while moving the TV will recharge the battery.Here are some facts. Before we leave each day a hookup check is done. All lights (brake, signal, running lights) work. The factory installed brake controller shows my selected gain and brakes are working fine. Here is a picture of my plug, which connection supplies the jucie to the battery? We just returned to the lower 48 today from Alaska, so a loose wire is not out of the question. We don't boondock so the battery is not essential, but if the battery is suppose to charge off the TV then something is wrong and is not going to fix it'self. Suggestions please.

I'd suspect a "parasitic load" from something in the trailer first.If something like the fridge is operating on 12v once you unplug from shorepower, the tug won't be able to keep up with the demand.

A Defective battery or maybe a light got left on. It could be Ur TT doesn't charge the battery during travel, I mean It just doesn't have that feature of charging your battery on your TT while charging. But all TT should charge the battery when pluged in 120v. Trucks don't charge the battery when the 12v plug is in trailer for travel unless it is wired into the trailer battery. The charging of a TT battery while traveling would be a custom mod. Unless its a moterhome.

Did you check TV fuses?There are separate fuses for brakes and such and for "charging". I had same issue. Brakes, lights, everything fine... but batteries dying. Realized a 30A fuse on the truck was burnt. Replaced and everything now OK.

All 7 pin trailer connections have the ability to charge the trailer battery while under way. Get yourself a 12 volt meter. With the truck ignition on, the pin on the truck side at 1:00 o'clock should be hot.

I had the same problem and replaced the battery on the fiver. The battery was the origional group size 24 from the maufacturer and was over 5 years old. I ran down to walmart and got a group size 29. I have not had a problem since. As a matter of routine we run the fridge while u/w without out any ill effects or noticeable drain.

If the OP has the fridge running while traveling then the battery will loose strength IF the tow vehicle is not charging the battery. There are other items drawing from the battery also, like the LP and CO detectors. Shouldn't drop to half though, maybe something else is drawing current.

I would suspect a bad battery is why the charge is going down so much during one day of travel

The charge wire has to be hooked to the stud 1 at the under hood fuse box for it to provide 12V to the trailer. It is a red wire with the terminal already attached and is tied back to the harness near the fuse box. Your owner manual gives you a better description of where you will find it.

The older "Classic" GM trucks did not come with the charge line fuse installed. The fuse in the Classic truck was labled "STUD 1" and was in the big fuse box under the hood.

Charging while underway aside...

Is anyone besides me puzzled by the fact that the battery is actually LOSING power while the trailer is under tow? It's fully charged at first, then drops to half in an unoccupied trailer.

How is that possible unless something is using it up?

I checked the TV fuse box and didn't see a fuse listed specificially for the 12v power. Someone in the campground had a tester and all showed good voltage except for the one shown with the 12v battery power per the diagram, so I'm pretty sure that is the problem. Right now I have brakes and lights and don't want to mess that up since I still have 2000 miles to go. I started taking off the connector but I could see I was getting in over my head and again I don't want to mess up what I have working now. Thanks for all the help

Really need to check converter output and battery charge at battery

I suspect these too, but I do a test after the shore power has been disconected and it shows full charge, then goes down in available power as the day goes on.

Looking directly at the face of plug with tab on top......11:00 position is 12V DC Charge line

Looking at receptacle on truck slot at top......1:00 position

Check that you have 12V power at the trucks receptacle with truck on.
No power..check for fuse/relay in trucks fuse panel.....manual will should which position fuse/relay for towing should be.

Got power from receptacle....then check connections/power when trailer pigtail cord connects inside overhang of 5'vr.

Also those 'battery monitors'.......will always show full charge when connected to shore power.
