- FlatBrokeExplorer IILook for eraser wheels and plastic razor blades. The wheels make short work of the process. Warm up the decals and use the plastic razors and it won't scratch the surface.
- DustytuuExplorerNo to painting them back on. We are going to use polishing compound on trailer and then no more ghost lines. Ours does look much better since we took them off.
- lynndiwagonExplorerUse the outlines to apply tape and paint them back on yourself. Metallic spray paint available at Lowe's.
- DustytuuExplorerYou will have a ghost of decals showing. We removed ours and it took a long time. We used several different things but what worked best was a heat tool with an attachment for a razor blade. But be very careful...
Our 5th wheel had mostly factory paint and that still looks great. We did not have a lot of decals but it takes a long time to remove them. And elbow grease! If we had known what we know now we would have ordered it with only the paint and NO decals. It now is black and white instead of having the tacky gold decals which started curling and getting sun burnt and dis colored! It looks very nice now and would have to look for where the decals were. But does show where they were. Maybe in a few years and sun the ghost prints will fade. - harold1946ExplorerThere is a great deal of difference between rubbing compound and polishing compound.
Rubbing compound is used for removing scratches and is a coarser grit.
Polishing compound is used to remove oxidation and restore luster. - BB_TXNomadI just removed the decals from the front of mine. Nice shiny white image where each piece was, and dull white all around. But in my case that was great. I used those images to make it easy to install new decals where the old ones came off. Don't get too aggressive with polishing compound.
- harold1946ExplorerPolishing compound will restore the finish to its original color and luster.
Big job but well worth doing. Then use a UV protectant. - harold1946ExplorerPolishing compound will restore the finish to its original color and luster.
Big job but well worth doing. - jjjExplorerUnless it is brand new you will still see the ghost shadows of the decals. I took mine off and the trailers fiberglass walls yellowed and under the decals it was still white. They will slowly fade but will never disappear unless you put new decals on over them.
