Local dealer says stay away from new Maxxis tires??

There are not that many users of Maxxis. And it seems failure incidents are climbing as the installation of Maxxis tires go up.

After running China bombs on 2 different TT's and 22 years later, had only 1 tire with a slight bulge, the rest either aged out or wore out. This time I decided to go with Maxxis ST E Loads in May. Only time will tell.

I ended up ordering a set of Michelin XPS Ribs. Clearance on my trailer is minimal with the factory mounted 235/80R16's and I felt I could have trouble with the 235/85R16's so opted for the closer size matching 245/75R16's.

Excellent choice for years and 50+k miles of trouble free operation.

China Bomb's on there currently are rated at 3400#. Trailers GVWR is 10500# on 5500# axles so Ribs 3042# rating should be good to go. Rims are 6.5J (whats the J?). XPS's are approved for 6.5-8". Any issues mounting on the minimum size approved rim?

No issues on a trailer and is a very popular size for our narrow trailer wheels.
The J indicates the design of the wheels bead/flange.

Expensive but got Discount Tire to price at $270 each with free installation. Hopefully made the right choice!

Well we put on a set of Maxxis before we picked the 5er up in December. Put a set of E rated tires. About 5-6000 miles this year. No problems and I don't expect any. As previously stated there are good and bad tires, ST and LT. If I do end up having a tire problem I will deal with it and move on. I try not to dwell on what might happen. I feel we put on the best tire available on. JMHO. Happy camping, John
