I've been out of the Claims business since '91, but I would have put this down as a collision. Your 5er collided with your truck.
You can argue the percentage of fault though. Kind of like if one of your vehicles came out of gear and rolled into another one of your vehicles. It's still a collision (and a deductible), but you could argue that you weren't at fault.
I'd be interested to see how the coverage is interpreted in your case.
And remember that it really isn't up to your agent. The Claims dept. makes the determination.
..........I think you're correct ! , jf
We are still in suspense , collision, comprehensive, whats the verdict . They can usually tell you right over the phone what covers what.
..........They classified it as ......Collision !! So , the adjustor came out Wed , the 23rd. He wrote up his paperwork and will send it into the office , they will analyze claim , approve or disapprove and notify body shop , then I take vehicle in next week for repair and pick up rent car for ~ 1 week until truck is ready . , jf - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIHere is my "pull test"

True story. I was sitting in my truck eating lunch in a mostly empty, large store parking lot on a very windy day. I was listening to the radio so it was only in the last few seconds ... I heard something coming toward me. I looked out and a shopping cart had gotten caught in the wind and was barreling toward my truck. Before I could even open the door to stop it ... BAM! It hit me square in the front fender making a nice dent.
Collision or comp? Here was the explanation I was given (Farmers Ins). Even though it was wind-propelled, the fact that the cart was on wheels and rolled into me - COLLISION. Had the cart become airborne as it hit me - COMP.
Regarding drops, I have a Superglide hitch. You can actually see the jaws wrap around the kingpin when properly hitched. Even so, I am pretty religious about doing a pull test before taking off.
I like your "pulltest"
I myself, do a jerk test, and violent too.
Inch forward slam the breaks, backup and do the same, couple times.
If that critter coming loose it will dam sure do it then. - cummins2014Explorer

An Andersen Ultimate will cure the dropped 5er issues instantly.
Are you claiming a trailer hitch has never come off the ball. A ball connection is not 100 percent foolproof:S
Explain how a 5th hitch could come off the Andersen. I've never ever heard of one coming loose. No different than a goose neck ball. Just in a different location.
Apples to apples if you forget to latch any hitch. At least with the Andersen if you forget to latch it then initially the 5er won't fall on the bed.
Most drops with conventional hitches are due to operator error.
Bumper pull trailers manage to break free from the ball on rare occasion. Again mostly do to human error. No reason to assume the Andersen hitch is immune to human error. The Andersen is a very innovative design that has received decent reviews from those that own them, nevertheless I don't see it as a cure to drops.
The fact that it may not fall on the bed initially is of no benefit if it will fall on the bed eventually.
If I was going to have a drop I think initially is better than later.Let it drop in the driveway vs. at some point going down the road - dedmistonModeratorI've been out of the Claims business since '91, but I would have put this down as a collision. Your 5er collided with your truck.
