Today was my first time looking and pricing used toy haulers after being in a truck camper. We are trying to keep it under $15k if possible for something decent. One thing I have noticed is NADA guides are waaaaaay under what everyone in this area are asking for their rigs, especially dealers. A couple of examples are one dealer had an 04 22ft Gear Box for $13,900 in very good shape, and NADA says it tops out at just over $10k. Another is a private party with a pretty nice, fairly loaded 2002 Weekend Warrior for $8800, yet NADA says retail is $4495, a BIG difference. Is there another closer-to-reality price guide service out there? I realize Memorial weekend is not the best time to look, but I just got the bug. We are going to finance, and I assume the bank uses NADA, in which case they will say no because of the price differences. Who is going to loan $10k, when the book says it's only worth $6k?

Not really. Look on craigslist , rvtrader for price comparisons. People can ask anything they want for something they own. It does not mean that someone is willing to pay that for it.

We just spent the last several months trailer shopping. Almost everything we looked at was at or under NADA. If I remember the NADA site has three prices. Suggested retail, average and low. Just wondering which one you are using. We used the average price for our search. I would say location has a lot to do with it but a lot of the trailers we looked at on line were on the west coast.

All prices are negotiable. If the dealer is asking 13k and NADA says 10k I'd start my offer at 9k and be willing to go to 10k before I walked. Part of why you see so many high prices by individuals isn't the real value it's how much they still owe to the bank on their RV. Never hurts to print out the NADA info and ask why they think their RV is so much better then NADA pricing. You could have missed something or they may include a couple bars of gold ;)

Yea, I think location and the time of year has a lot to do with it. I am in rural Nevada with the closest "city" being Reno and there just isn't much available there right now. But even 180 miles away in Sacramento, all prices seem to be quite a bit over NADA. In fact I cannot find one even close to NADA, at least in my price range. One problem I have, is I am fairly limited to what I can buy. I have a Kawasaki Teryx with a near 79" high roof. Most don't have that kind of clearance without removing the rear bed(s). It will easily fit in the 22ft Gear Box, but the dealer is firm on over $15k out the door, and it only books for a bit over $10k. He keeps telling me the $13,900 is the SALE PRICE and they can't go any lower. Maybe I will just wait a couple of weeks and see if they still have it. I might have a bit more leverage then. I'm in the Sacramento area and had the same problem finding a trailer.I found most of the high asking prices was due to bank pay off, not market value.I searched all of Ca and ended up buying from a private party In San Louis Obispo.Be patient and you will find what you want.

Well as things turn out, I got cold feet at the last minute. I called Giant RV and canceled the Stealth and they will be refunding my deposit. We decided that a Class C motor home would be better for us. Much easier to maneuver into the yard and I can tow my UTV behind it with my ATV trailer, but the main thing is I can also flat tow my lifted/winched Suzuki Sidekick behind it.
The main drawback to the Class C will be fuel mileage with a gas engine compared to towing with my Dodge CTD. But I think it will be better for us in the long run.

You might want to check out KSL.com click on the classifieds, and scroll down to toyhaulers on the RV section. This site is huge, and many people in Utah, Idaho and Wy use it. Last I looked there were 500 plus toyhaulers for sale. I have bought and sold many things on this site.

We purchased the exact same trailer from giant rv in 2011. Had them bring it to newmexico az border and we drove from Houston to pick it up. Great dealer/ great deal. Even with all the traveling and shipping still nearly 3k cheaper than anyone else. We used it for two years and just recently sold it for 1500 less than we paid for it. Only issue were the cheap tires were completely worn out in 10K miles. Generator that came with it was cheap and unreliable but we already had a 6k Honda so want an issue.

Well if you have a great credit score you can just do a personal loan.

So I'd suggest go it approved first. And see which route you want to go.

Isn't there a Stealth dealer in Carson City? They wouldn't even try to come close with the price you got in So Cal? Bottom line is a sale is a sale--- are they that difficult to deal with?

According to inventory on their websites, nobody in Carson or Reno had any 2013s left in the floor plan we wanted. I even checked Sacramento dealers. Believe me, I would much rather drive 1-3 hours to pick one up than 7 or 8.

I think prices on smaller trailers are creeping up even at 15K a lot of people can get in on the fun. Bigger trailers and bigger prices are a hard sell.
