Slop in the hitch

How old is the hitch? It looks to only pivot fore aft not side to side, didn't think they were sold new that way any more.

I just bought a 2006 Chevy 2500HD that came with a fifth wheel hitch. Pulled the trailer only once. But noticed a bump when I start and stop. The bump is more noticeable then what I feel when pulling a ball hitch. It isn't that bad, just more then I thought it should be.

Sounds like a common Reese Bump.

My Curt has very little play, but definitely more than a bumper pull ball hitch. But there two completely different animals. If I had slop or play on a ball hitch, I'd be worried.

My Hensley BD3 hitch uses a Holland Binkley head and has no slop. There are otherhitches available that have no slop

Is the hitch new or used and is there any adjustments that can be done/tried? When we went from a TT to 5er a friend gave me his Husky slider. As much as I tried I could not get ride of the clunk when starting or stopping by making some adjustments. I ended up with a Pullrite Superglide and no more clunk.

relax, after a few years you will get used to it.

Check the jaws for wear and replace as needed.

As I have stated, it came with the truck. Yes it was used.

OK I guess I will be the first to say it. Get a B&W and forget about it
