Step to reach hitch pin

I was wondering what kind or step guys are using to reach the hitch handle pin? I am 6 feet tall I can reach the handle ok but the locking pin on my B&W is too far.Being in my mid 50's and fat the days of stepping on to of the tire are past me. I would like something that is compact and will store easy but is still sturdy enough to support my fat butt.
Thanks

That is awesome! My Dad is 87 later this month and in good shape. Mom passed recently and he is thinking about getting a RV and do some traveling.

I think mine is a three step, but it's the same idea. I also find many uses for it around the campsite as well as on the road. I'm only 195 pounds, but I am 89 years old so that counts for something.

Yep, that's me. Was out driving my tractor and working with my chainsaw this afternoon. Yet I have to admit I "wore out" far quicker than I used to. We haven't made a long trip since June/July of 2021 and may never take a really long one again, but we haven't quit yet.

And yes, I carry that three step in the pickup right alongside the hitch.

I play set and spike water volleyball most days during the winter months in SoCal with some people that are well into their 80's. It gets very aggressive!!!

He said he is only 74, what age is considered an old fart? Life can throw a curve at any age. How old is joebedford? IDK, hopefully not as old as Barney! 🙂

Jerry

Yes ,I was wondering what age is an old fart. :B I have a friend that was old at 50, I fish with 80 year olds ,and you would think they were 40. I have no problem stepping up on the wheel to reach the hitch , but that step 12v built looks handy . I haven't asked him ,but who is doing the bending on the step. I built a lot of that stuff over the years ,had the machinery at work to do so. My place of work ,that I spend 42 years at , and retired is no longer in operation , or I would be out there bending a couple of those . 🙂

At only 74, that's how I still do it ,but I am sure there will be a day , but that day hasn't come yet .

Beware my friend........falling is the number one reason us "old farts" go to the emergency room!! (published fact)

There is no doubt of that fact, I know full well . Both our mothers ,my wife and I , their demise was the result of falls .

I watched my son slip off the tire getting into the bed of the truck in his twenties on a hunting trip ,and cut the hell out of his leg , it happens .

IMO 12V has the best idea/product, for the intended use!

My plain, simple, but multi tasking Rubbermaid step stool, with rubber slip free surface, works great for many things. I use it to clean bugs from windshield, as a table to hold my beverage/other items. It is an extra step, when 5th is parked on uneven ground. I keep it behind cab, in bed corner, upside down, with my chocks inside.

Made in America, as is 80% of Rubbermaid products!

Jerry

Thanks! I put a lot of time into making it a functioning product.

My Dad bought the AMP and returned it as it mounted at the front of the bed. That got me thinking there had to be a better way.

I use the same as Jerry… I also purchased the amp step and returned it … my folding step also has multiple uses and is kept in a milk crate that is kept in the bed of my truck that also holds my 2 wheel chocks..

Makes me wonder if Steve's hitch is a brand X, rather than a fanboy hitch??
