Well, we finally bought... Have a question

We had a Short Queen in the bedroom of our Cougar 244RLS (just traded it in last wee. We found full size sheets fit well on it. To make it longer, we pulled the bed out a few inches and put pillows between the mattress and the wall.

As for the special coating, GAP insurance, etc. Not worth it.

The RV queen is usually 75", so just a bit shorter than the standard 80" queen. We just buy regular sized queen bedding and it works fine.

I would not buy gap insurance from the seller. If I was concerned about ability to cover the gap in case of a loss, I would discuss my options with my insurance agent when we bought his policy.

All the other junk they try to sell, like everyone else says, not worth it.

I've really never measured the Queen mattress in my Outback. (Cougar and Outback are both Keystone products.) But the mattress that came with my Outback is really a pretty good one. We were prepared to swap it out, but after getting the camper, I think it's a normal size queen. All our sheets fit just fine for a normal queen.

We swapped out the Queen (short one) for a normal Queen (house hold style) on our previous Keystone Springdale. Now that original mattress was awful. We took the trailer mattress and put it under another queen in the house and kept it if we ever sold the camper. Made the bed a little higher, but it provided a great place to store it. Meanwhile, we purchased a new normal queen Serta that was about a foot think! (Great mattress). Put it in the camper and used it till we traded the camper for the current one. When we traded, we put the original back in and took our Serta back out. We were going to use it in the new Outback. Ended up, we didn't need to.

So, if your question about the mattress size is for finding sheets, or for a replacement, I suggest you try the mattress first, at least once, before getting a new one, and if regular sheets fit, no need to purchase specialty sheets ahead of time.

If you do swap out the mattress for a normal Queen, more than likely you'll have no problem at all. Width will not be an issue, it will just be a bit longer, and will hang over the end of the bed frame a little. Not bad, as long as you can still move around the end of the bed.

Are you leasing the unit? GAP Insurance is usually applied to leases units when the :easing Co want you to cover the gap between what the value of the unit is versus what is owed on it.

It can apply to purchased units but I've not seen ii unless it's a bank requirement nowadays.

Gap insurance is also offered on purchases, this is better covered either by you insurance company or lender, covers the GAP between value and amount owed on a loan. If low or no money down, it is something to consider or work with your insurance agent.

X2! You know what down payment you made, and how much the unit is worth! If there is a substantial difference then talk with your insurance agent. Basically GAP is insurance to cover the lender, if you total the rig, and your insurance does not cover what you borrowed.

As far as the wax and other protection the dealer is trying to sell you, forget it! As mentioned, you can easily do that yourself, or even if you hire someone you can still do it for a lot less money than what the dealer is trying to sell you.

Finally, you mentioned the mattress. Not sure what you were getting at, they come from the factory with a mattress. If you are considering upgrading the mattress agin, do some research, you can buy a better one yourself. But remember, RV mattress' are a little smaller then regular. Good luck with your new RV!

Most of the "add on" items are useless. Some are a gamble. Some pay off. No one knows the future.

First TT, we got everything. Never used anything. Money lost.
Second TT, we got nothing, never had a need to use anything. Money saved.
Third TT, we got the Gap, and extended warranty, (except paint). Well,... little did we realize the front cap would fade and we'd get it repainted. It wasn't covered. The ONE thing we needed, and it wasn't covered! Money lost! (but Keystone honored it under warranty, even though the camper was out of warranty).

I think "Gap insurance" is a good thing. Gap will pay the difference in loan pay off amount if you total the trailer and the insurance says the trailer has too much depreciation and won't give you the full amount to pay it off. Gap will make up that difference and pay off your loan. You only need it if you get a loan!

So, really, it's all a gamble? Insurance and such is gambling you will not have to file any kind of claims (they make money, you looses). You are gambling you will have need for it (they loose money, you win). It's a gamble either way.

Only you can decide.
