I have a 2008 Monaco Camelot with a Coach step and control module #301702. I replaced the magnetic switch for the door and now the step is not functioning properly. It still extends/retracts when door is open/shut. However, now it will not stay out when parked and the door is closed. It also will not retract with the ignition key is turned on. HELP!!!!

It's fixed.  Thanks for all the help,  Here is how it was fixed.  Background first:   found out the entry door magnetic switches that REV and Lippert gave me part numbers for were incorrect.  They were contact switches only with no electronic function internal to the switch.  That's why the step would extend/retract when door opened/closed, but wouldn't stay out with door closed or retract when ignition was on.

Mystery solved.  The correct switch for my coach is part# 16622748 Desc: SWITCH DOOR ENTRY .75 MAGNETIC WHITE.  As soon as I installed that switch everything worked exactly like it was supposed to.

HOW many wires does the correct switch have? Doug

You have 4 wires TO the step
1. RED large wire is 12 volt positive
2. YELLOW wire is 12 volt when Ignition key ON
3. WHITE wire will have 12 volts when the switch by entry is OFF or ON. Check both modes
4. The BROWN is the ground signal from the Magnet.
IF you have 12 volts at the RED and WHITE(either way the switch is turned) and the step goes in and out possible control module. IF the YELLOW wire has power with Ignition OFF, then the step will operated as it is right now. Disconnect the yellow and the step will probably function as designed. Then trace the Yellow and connect it to Ignition ON only. Doug

Check the Entry Door Switch fuse (7.5 amp) and the Entry Door Sensor fuse (7.5 amp) located in the outside panel under the driver’s seat. The Entry Door Switch fuse is for the on/off switch on the dash/panel and the Entry Door Sensor fuse controls the steps when the ignition is turned on. Also, when you replace the magnets, were they like for like. My old ones was white with a ¾ inch bore so Coach Step advised me to replace them with the same color and bore magnets. I also had to replace my Entry Step Module because the old one shorted out and burned up. I installed module #301702, replaced both magnets (one in entry door and other in door frame), and all 3 fuses, step motor fuse (20 amp), Entry Door Switch fuse (7.5 amp) and Entry Door Sensor fuse (7.5 amp). Coach Step Technical Support was awesome. If this doesn't fix it, give them a call at 574-537-8900

Thank you for the information. My problem is I don't have anything telling me which fuse goes to what other then the Monaco Operators Manual which has some fuses labeled but not all. There were a couple that labeled fuses as step. I checked them and they were good. I guess I'll just have to check every fuse in the box

If it worked before the Magnet was replaced, then it would not be a control problem. Step controls rarely fail, UNLESS it is the older LCI/Coach/SCS step(NOT Kwikee). Those controls until about 2010 would fail as they were not sealed from the elements correctly. Doug

1. Changing the magnet will not affect the ignition or kill switch
2. IF you installed the wrong magnet polarity, the step would operated in reverse. Retract when door is opened and extend when door is closed. The magnet just opens and closes a GROUND signal to the control module
3. Making the steps stay OUT with Ignition OFF and door closed is a 12 volt switch problem on the inside of the RV
4. Retracting the steps when the Ignition key is ON and the door must be closed, is a 12 volt problem on the Ignition side YELLOW wire.
5. So, you will have 2 problems if you have items 3 and 4 not working, and both will not be a magnet caused problem. Doug

Hypoxia, thanks for providing ArchHoagland the link. I replaced my magnets with Magnetic 3/4 inch Core Round, Kwikee part number 905314000 or Coach step part number 379400. Same part with different part numbers.

One color of proximity switch is closed when near the magnet, the other color is open when near the magnet. Kwikee Step Magnet
