99 Winnebago adventurer tv conversion

I am looking at replacing and upgrading the tv's in my Rv I purchased about a year ago it has the tv above the driver and passenger seats in a cubby hole what can I do to put a flat screen above there and what's the biggest I can go without huge mods I was thinking 40" with a wall mount? Please all import would be helpful and please share what you have done thank you......
  • Thanks for the pics and the info I just bought the TV and mount. Now time to start on this project so I can do another thanks for the pics and info everyone I will post as soon as I get it done
  • I replaced my front and rear tube TVs with Flat panels. I did not cut down the size of the front cabinet. I re-used the original mounting brackets to install a 1" x 10" wood frame for the front TV and a TV mount from KMART. Then I used a spacer on the back of the original trim. In the back I used a piece of plywood and some finished veneer. I screwed that to the original door frame and then mounted the LED TV to that with a normal wall mount that I bought on line (Cheaper). I installed a couple safety straps. The local RV shop wanted $500 just to do the front.

I took the plastic housing and cage out, inserted a vinyl cover piece of plywood and mount your LCD mount on that and I filled in the bottom with a thin 1/8 inch py also covered to closely match upholstry with a couple colored screws from the old hardware I removed.

If you would like some pics let me know

32" is the largest you can go and still open cabinet doors on either side. I removed the large metal cage and used wood to fabricate a backboard to mount the Tilt Mount on. I also installed a 120 volt receptacle in the TV cavity and tied it into the circuit in the cabinet adjacent to the TV.

  • I replaced our tiny front one with a bit of a different set-up. I added a 32", but I wouldn't hesitate to add a 40 LED tv now. What we did was to mount an arm style wall mount on the side of the front cabinets. That way, when we travel, the TV folds out of the way (ends up right behind the passenger on the wall) and when we want to watch movies we can swing it exactly how we want it (which is usually facing the couch on the side.) I'll do a write up on it, but I have to take some pictures first.

  • I installed a 32" Sony front and back in my 03 Adventurer. Used some oak laminate plywood to fill the big hole and some oak trim around the edges. Had to remove the big plastic bezel and metal mount first. Used a standard wall mount on the plywood. Worked out great.
    Good Luck
  • We went from a flat screen 20" regular TV to a 32" Samsung LCD flatscreen TV. We had it done for us but it seemed to be an easy transition for them. Much more room and smooth front cabinets instead of the protrusion from the flat screen.
