a/c works on shore power but not generator power

2009 Coachman Class A. Generac generator. A/C works fine on shore power...won't work when using the generator,. (yes, plugged into receptacle and outlet shows 120 on each leg...to ground did not check to common.) When trying to run the A/C, the compressor sounds like it wants to start and then the 110 power is lost (microwave beeps off). If I leave the A/C in the on position, after 30-45 seconds the microwave beeps on (110 shows up) the A/c tries to start but then Microwave beeps off (lost 110 again).
New house batteries also - charged.
  • You are running off of your inverter from the batteries - that's why your microwave shuts off.
  • does anything besides the A/C needing AC power work off the genny?
  • It sounds like low voltage from the generator. Have you checked the EXACT generator output when under load?

Sometimes I have no idea what people are responding to.
  • generator power does not kick off and back on

an inverter might do this, but a whole house inverter should default to gnerator power, just like it does to shore power

an EMS could do this if it is wired after the transfer switch, and generator voltage drops too low when trying to start the A/C

which would indicate a problem with the generator or the A/C unit, like a bad start capacitor for the a/c compressor, or compressor going bad

the MW is nothing but an indicator of power loss and power return

should also indicate power return IF you turn off the A/C when the drop out occurs
  • Our A/C wasn't running with the genny, took the cover off the genny and there were 2 circuit breaker switches one was in the off position. Made sure both were in the on position and everything works. May it be so simple for you too. :)
