A few mods done today

Got the MH out of storage and getting a few mods done!



Installed my Forest River rock guard I purchased from future sales. Easy to install with the provided L brackets that go on the middle hitch bolt!





Installed my surge protector. Easy install but the connection are opposite of my needs. The input is on the top and the out is on the bottom. So I had to run the cable behind and connect it. It is Bluetooth, but it’s weak and drops out when I’m more than 15 feet from the protector. My Mh is 37ft long!



I also vented my generator compartment. It’s at the far rear and has always run hot and dies out when you hit a bump or make a sharp turn or anything that has a harsh hit. I narrowed it down last year to the fuel boiling in the carburetor (vapor lock). It always started right back up. So these lower vents will provide cooler air than what’s under the coach and the rear one will expel the exhaust heat (not exhaust!) I will also be putting 2 at the top of the door to vent the heat that builds up in there. I had my remote temp sensor in that compartment and it can get up to 180 on a 90 plus degree day. I also going to wrap the fuel line and carb.



Still waiting on 5 star to email me my tunes! I know this thing is a tank, but it is a dog and can’t get out of its own way. Ford has it so detuned and the drive by wire is so lagging. I’ve been down to 40mph coming up out of river valleys, I90 in SD coming up out of the Missouri River has me down to 35 at the top, not acceptable!

That makes sense. I know I have had my outside temp monitor in one of the regular storage compartments in the middle of the coach and those temps will see 120deg on a regular 80+ degree day.

With the engine up front you won't experience any differences in cooling as some of us with rear engine coaches can. The air dumps right there under the bumper for us while yours has the entire length of the chassis to disperse.

Yes we will see. That is the only negative I can see. But since I was having generator issues before and now that I have vented the generator I don’t think it will be an issue. It’s not like the entire driveline/exhaust is enclosed. I’ll find out as soon as it gets hot out and I have the generator running with the AC on.

Ah, I should have looked closer. Thanks for the clarification. There would be quite a difference in air flow at the rear between the 2 setups.

Man, I wish. mine is a gasser. but thanks for the compliment. I looked again and I guess with the vents in the generator compartment it looks like a DP.

Agreed and I had a fried with a rear flap and I do not after going to the lake on a dirt road his rear compartment was full of a heavy coating of dust. Mine had a light coating. The flap just pushed the dust up into the compartment.

I had just the opposite. Without it, I had rock damage on my Explorer. Found rocks at the base of the windshield and a couple on the roof. I got 2 things for one with it. It finishes off the rear and offers protection for the toad. As far as heat, the generator is already running hot, this isn’t going to block any airflow at the rear to cause heat issues.

It's funny, but the first thing I did after buy my coach was REMOVE that rock dragger on the back of the coach. It sounds like it was just as easy to remove as yours was to install. I don't like providing free advertising either so it was a win-win for me.

Thanks. Yes, I try and make things look factory/professional! Looking forward to the rock guard stopping damage to my Explorer. Last year I lost a fog lamp, had tiny stone chips in the windshield, and found small to medium sized rocks in the cowl at the base of the windshield, not to mention 2 decent size rocks on the roof along the roof rack, all highway travel.

And I’m anxious to see how much cooler the generator compartment runs.

All good mods. Nice work on the vents. Looks like they were meant to be there from the factory.
One of my favorite hobbies is doing changes and upgrades to the coach.
