- BrianinMichiganExplorerWith mine, ( a roof top unit ) I had to adjust the A/C control switch because it would not kick in the compressor. I pulled off the knob and behind it is a little screw adjustment. Tweeked it a little and A/C was back up and running. When i rotated the knob I could not hear the stat kicking in. Mine is old though. 26 years but still kicking.
- JimExplorerIt could very likely be a thermal disk is bad. They are just a few bucks and do fail. They are attached to a couple places on the AC's tubing up on the roof. Easy to test too. With the AC off and the tubing cool (morning best), check for ZERO ohms across any thermal disks you find under the shroud. Discharge the caps first.
My two roof ACs were still working fine after 22 years. - smlrangerExplorerIMO, at 14 years old I would not pay someone $220 to try and fix it. I would bite the bullet and get a new one. That said, the new ones will look like a piece of junk toy compared to your old one. I just recently replaced a 10 year old Coleman with a new one and it is comical how flimsy and cheap the new one looked compared to the old one we removed.
- Carvin_MarvinExplorerReplaced the caps. Fan still works as advertised. Compressor doesn't. Mobil rv repair would charge $220 to get on the roof and check it. Think it might be throwing money down the hole. Thanks for the comments.
- bullydogs1ExplorerThere were a bunch of start capacitors from Dometic in the 2006 era or so that would go bad...easy fix...remember to discharge the current capacitor before you touch it..
- IvylogExplorer III$700 plus labor or hopefully a $12 start capacitor ?
- rgatijnet1Explorer IIISometimes they take awhile before the compressor will kick on. Mine can take 5 minutes or so and then it works fine.
