It's just the DW and I 99% of the time and we have a jacknife sofa and convertible dinette if needed. We are thinking about what we could do with the cab over bunk. Right now we have a bunch of baskets loaded with unused extra blankets and stuff. Seems like a total waste of space. But would like to see what others have done with the space.

Storing stuff in the cabover won't cut into mpg unless you've put so much weight into it that it changes the weight distribution. Some folks convert it to an entertainment center. Most use it for storage.You could remove the mattress and build a tailgate for it. Then you could store stuff and close the tailgate to keep things in place and hide the clutter.

I was referring to poor aerodynamics caused by the cabover. Would like to see DYI converted entertainment centers and storage options.

Cutting off the Class C sleeping loft and modifying it to be shorter and more aerodynamic like the Class B is a very tall order. It is something you possibly won't find.

Just looking for better utilization of the cabover space, nothing more.

The cabover doesn't really do a whole lot of harm aerodynamically, at least compared to the general shape of the RV as a whole. Making it look pointer would likely not yield as much of an improvement as it looks like it should. (On the other hand, tapering the back end out rather than having it cut off square would probably help more than it might seem it should.)At least on my class C, the cabover is much more comfortable (and spacious) as a bed than the dinette or jackknife sofa.Do be careful with storing too much heavy stuff there; often the structure is not super sturdy for heavy things bouncing around as one drives. It's designed to support the mostly static load of people sleeping, but not that multiplied by a few G's for potholes.

I put my TV up there. Easier to see and out of the way. Free's up the space it would have taken down below or on the wall.

Last time I used a class "C", I used the space for storage of bulky, lightweight stuff like blankets, bedding, and clothing.

If not using it for sleeping space, consider installing a seat belt based cargo net, similar to what Coachmen rigs do. That way, you can use plastic tubs, and not have them eject if you hit a bump.

We think that our front cab over bunk is a very useful space! We can use it for sleeping (it's queen bed size) or resting/relaxing and watching the TV OR it's a great storage space for all of our stuff that we take back & forth with us (we winter down south and spend the summers up north). All in all, a large storage space that you don't have in a Class A motorhome. We had 4 Class A motorhomes and love our current Class C!

I like ours a lot. I sleep on the outer edge. We don't have much storage so our chairs in a bag ride there, extra pillows and blankets, fishing rods when I take them, guns for hunters, and of course...shopping sprees. It's a great space, wouldn't change mine.

In the interest of weight management, we removed both the mattress and the removable section that fills in the space to complete the bed. (Not sure what it is called but, it was heavy!) In they're place, we carpeted the area and put wicker baskets there for added storage. Not great utilization of the space but, it works for us.

Do they have the windows? My dogs love sleeping up there at night and being able to see everything going on outside.

I find the cabover bed to stay nice and warm and cozy at night. The couch is comfortable, but it gets colder down there.
