back up monitor

2006 SouthWind with a Weldex back up system, works sometimes and then the screen goes blank, then it comes back on but it has wiggle lines.I have taken the camera off and cleaned the connection and put it back no better.should I just replace it with a new wireless color unit,???????
  • If the wires are already there, there's no advantage to going wireless and possible disadvantages such as signal interference. Hit the connections with contact cleaner and if you determine that you have a failed component, go to These Guys . Very helpful with camera issues.

Have you tried taking the connections loose and cleaning them on the back of the monitor also? You can go wireless but I would determine which part of your system is failing, either monitor or camera, and then just replace that bad part. You can upgrade either end of your back-up system, using your existing wiring, with the use of some adapters. Of course that all assumes that you do not have a problem with the wiring itself.
  • I replaced mine. CRT based monitor contrast was failing and washing out the image. Replaced with a flat screen LCD from AMAZON. The coach camera is wired but I did install a WIRELESS on the toad so I can see behind it should I desire. The toad transmitter is in the CRV rear door and the receiver is in the coach dash and I get a reasonable signal at about 45 feet.

The problem you'll face with wireless is you'll still have to power the camera off a source that you can turn on or off. I like having the camera on when going down the road so my system is chassis powered from an ignition key switch source. Engine on camera and monitor are on. The toad camera is powered from the coach when connected.

The new monitor wasn't a perfect fit for the hole in the dash but I hide everything pretty well. Used light ply as a mounting adapter and painted the front side black.
