Bedroom Slide Out

Once running, the engine is self supporting, but at idle the alternator does not put out full current and any load that exceeds the idle output can cause the engine to die. The battery generally acts as a buffer but if it was low / dead / or had too much resistance due to corrosion it can't. I test drove a car with electric assisted steering once. It had a dead battery and had to be jumped. During the drive I slowed down and let off the gas making a right turn and the car stalled. The electric assist steering exceeded the alternator output at idle and there was no battery to back it up, so the engine died. A slide motor could be a big enough load if the connection to the battery was poor. .

With my small car, I got an intermittent no start condition. When I turned the key to on the lights would come on, but as soon as I tried to start it, boom everything would go out. Resetting the key would cause the dash to light again, and SOMETIMES it would start. Had the exact same symptoms and problem with my dad's car. Cleaning the inside of the clamps solved the problem.

I have also experienced a loose main ground wire cause similar issues.

Thanks for everyone's help. Batteries now charging at 14.5 and everything is working properly!

Thanks Mark, I didn't know that, it's trickle charging now and it's at 12.0!

J-Rooster, the battery should read at least 12.8 to be fully charged if I'm not mistaken. 12.0 is really low.

Make sure your battery/batteries are fully charged.

My 06 Winnebago Adventurer, the slides work with or with out the switch key being on.
But if need be you can push the bedroom slide in by hand if some one holds the retract button in.
At least that's the way ours works. because I had a bedroom slide failure one time, but it didn't affect the motor starting and running.

O.K. I'll try that! I read online that slide outs or either operated by a solenoid or a fuse. Winnebagos are operated by fuses according to my Winnebago Manual, which I didn't know and the engine need not to be started to extend or retract the slide outs. My Winnebago Handbook says if the chassis battery is low on charge this can be a problem, which Doug Rainer refereed to! The Winnebago Hand Book also says one of the fuses maybe blown? Fuses are located on the interior firewall beneath the dash, beneath the instrument panel dash pod, and inside the leveling control pad housing (As Doug said to check). I'm going out now put the key on acc. parking brake on then see if the slide out switch will work to retract slide (after trickle charging the chassis battery it's reading 12 and my Kwikee steps just extended so I may have enough power to get things going?). If that doesn't work then I'll have to find those two fuses? Handbook also states if battery and fuses are not the problem to go to the hydraulic system or electrical system to look for a fault. Anyway, Thank You, Mr. Charles for getting back to me!
