black rubber showing through?

I washed my roof today, there are black patches. I thought it might be mildew and tried to scrub it off, patches got bigger, it is the black rubber showing through the white covering that is coming off. I haven't had any leaks. Can I put on another coating, any suggestions of a repair scheme. 97 Georgie Boy
thank you
  • "Liquid roof". This is a brand name. google it. $50 ish for a 5 gallon jug of the stuf, and it flat out works.
  • You can also use Bus Kote. It's used on
Roofs of school buses. No mixing.
One coat primer two top coats.
Works great. Turns out just like the dicor
    But may be cheaper.

Mine is 20 years old. If I can get a few more years out of it for $300.00 ill be happy. Next time I will replace the rubber along with all the vents and sky lite. If my a/c's are sill good I will keep them.

Why replace something that doesn't need it. The white coating is simply a reflective surface. As long as the rubber is not damage why worry? There is a thin line between being pro-active and anal.

  • I just did mine a couple of weeks ago with the Dicor two part system. My roof was 80% black after a good spic and span wash. My rv is 33' and we used two cleaners and three gal. of the rubber paint. Mine now looks just like Fire Up's. I did not plastic the sides of rv like the directions say. We just wet we sides and sprayed with water every once in awhile. We sprayed the cleaner on with a industrial type windex bottle sprayer. Clean up any splatter right away and wear gloves.

  • polyt,
Yes Sir, that's the white coating disintegrating over time. My roof on my previous coach, a '99 Fleetwood Bounder 34V was almost completely black, with "some" white remaining here and there. So, long story short, I used the Dicor system. It's a two-part system that is all done in one, long, hard day. That includes to methods of cleaning and two coats of the new coating. That was over 5 years ago and it still looks as good now as the day we did it. Here's a pic of how it looked right after. Good luck.
