- DrewEExplorer IIThanks for updating us on the outcome. I'm glad it was a simple fix and went well.
- Racine96ExplorerThank you folks for your responses. I bought it in an auto part and replace it. It was easier than anticipated. The brake light were staying on. Now everything is well.
- CharlesinGAExplorerSome brake light switches are not adjustable. Ram pickups for example from the early 2000's up had a non-adjustable switch. They come with install instructions and you had better read them completely before you start. Follow exactly or you have just junked your new switch. It automatically adjusts when you pull out a pin, once done there is no doing it over.
Some other vehicles are the same way.
Charles - klutchdustExplorer IIAre you talking about the switch that activates when the brake pedal is depressed? If so you can adjust the switch so the button doesn't stay out and turn on the lights. When the brake pedal is in its normal position the brake switch button should be inside the switch. When you push the pedal down the button comes out and the light turns on. sSome switches are mounted on a bracket and it may get bent by your foot hitting it. Some switches slide inside a round holder and are adjusted by sliding it in or out.

They are adjustable, or at least they used to be. Have you tried that first?
It is not working and the brake light are on all the time unless I disconnect it. What do you mean "self-explanatory? - Racine96ExplorerIt is not working and the brake light are on all the time unless I disconnect it. What do you mean "self-explanatory?
- So you're talking about the brake light switch? Replacing it should be pretty self-explanatory. Why do you need to replace the switch?
- Racine96ExplorerI am not talking about any light, but the brake control light. This is the switch that controls when the stop lights go on. None of what you mentioned is what I am talking about. Thanks.
- DrewEExplorer IIWhat light do you mean by the "brake control light" -- the idiot light on the dashboard, or a tail light on the rear of the vehicle, or maybe something else?
I've replaced a taillight on my motorhome. It was about as easy as they get: unscrew the lens, take out the bad bulb, put the new one in, and replace the lens. Obviously how difficult that is depends on what light unit the motorhome builder decided to use.
If it's the idiot light, I suspect it's mostly a matter of how buried it is in the dashboard. You probably could find that out by searching youtube for videos on replacing idiot lights on E series (or even F series) vehicles; the dashboard is not unique to the E450 in any way, but is common among about a zillion vans and trucks, depending on the year. I do know that often (speaking very generally) the idiot light bulbs seem to be about the first part on the assembly line for a vehicle, with the rest of it is assembled around them.
