Class A motorhomes for dummies -- Is there a book?

I will add that if you are talking to the salesman/woman and you ask a question and the answer is it sure does ask to see it in operation. Not so much that he/she is lying but often they don't know and will say about anything for a sale. Ask here for info and you will get good help Be patient, Larry

I again read Johnny T's sticky for first time buyers a week or two ago.

I've looked at Amazon and other places for books on motorhomes, and from the descriptions, yes, they all strike me as generic, perhaps even superficial. I was hoping that someone could point out one or two that would be useful for a first-time buyer.

I am aware that motorhomes have manuals, plus user guides for the appliances, etc. Out TT has those.

What I was looking for is a recommendation for a book that would provide useful information BEFORE buying so I can hopefully make smart choices in selecting a motorhome.

I'm more concerned about the questions I do not know to ask about motorhome features and options that would be available to us.

It's a bit old... but that doesn't mean it isn't helpful. Once you get some generic knowledge you can understand the questions/answers on here much better.

In addition to the owners manual, there should be instructions for each item on the coach. Furnace installation and trouble shooting, Fridge, water heater, sat dome, jacks, awnning, Gen set, A/C units,and the list goes on. I have needed the instructions for almost every thing on our coach, and they were supplied by Newmar in a large file case. Every time we added a new extra to our unit, all the paper work went into the case. I also bought a CD on driving a motor home, very helpful.

MHs come with a manual. If buying new make sure you get it. Some manuals get removed by employees. If buying used hold out making it part of the deal. My MH manual is about 8" X 11" X 3/4". The manual has lots of good info. For example: Use jacks or slides out first? Lots of opinions but manual goes through those procedures.

Most books are very generic. Just keep active here you will get all the help you need (maybe some that you don't need too).

In the Open Roads Forum (the "Parent" of this sub-Forum), click on Newest and just read whatever goes by. Yes, you'll see some things that don't apply to your rig but there are also many, many overlapping systems and concepts. BEST education there is.

Amazon has lots of books on Irving. Also Google RV for Dummies lots of leads there. Your owners manual is the most helpful book I have found.
