Class C Value

To be honest (I hate saying this), but almost anybody can get a 84,863 MSRP down to 58k, dealers do that all the time.

I believe used with 6k miles you are probably looking at 40k to 45k max.

I appreciate the response. I guess I just don't understand. Here is a very similar class c https://www.rvtrader.com/listing/2015-Thor-Motor-Coach-FOUR-WINDS-26A-121044854 and the are asking 55k with 8k miles on it. Now I know that doesn't mean they will get that, but I see a lot of units in that year range with miles for 50+. I'm so confused lol

Not really much to understand here. The same principles apply for new or used. The unit you're looking at, they are asking $85K and you should be able to get it for about $60K. Used, if they are asking $55K it will sell for about $40K.

After buying my unit slightly used and for what I paid I would really have to think hard before buying new. There has to be thousands of lightly used Class C units floating around and for the money you lose on buying new in the first or second year I opted to put that money saved into something else. Just my .02 cents.

If your plan is to buy a unit, use it for a few months, then sell it to get your money back, I would say definitely go with a used unit rather than new. Buy one that someone else took the big initial depreciation hit on.

OP you are discovering something I have noticed too. There is a mis-pricing in the late model used market. I have assumed it is because most people will pay much more for the new one than you will. And this supports the used prices.

In fact that is why we bought new, at a low price. Even after 3 years I still see used ones being asked for very close to what we paid. I know the key word is asked, but still.

My gut feeling from watching the prices over the past few years is that in a private sale you might indeed get in the low 50s for it. When you consider sales tax, you might still be out 15-20% depreciation.

Currently on RVTrader, there is a used 2016 26RS with an asking price higher than you are hoping to buy your new 2017. The 2016 is on a Ford Chassis though, not sure if that makes that big a difference.

We bought our 2009 Jayco Greyhawk new for 26% less than MSRP. It was a few years before used 2009 Greyhawks had asking prices less than what we paid new. I think what you hope to do is feasible if the RV Market stays the same. If I were in your shoes, I'd put it on the market for what I paid and see how it goes.

Just because the used ones with low mileage are asking for this amount of money doesn't mean they are going to get it. The can ask for the moon but it is only worth what someone else is willing to give. Also lots of people are upside down on their loans and need this amount to get out of their loan without having to pay more money to sell it.

If you could do this you would be a very lucky person and go and buy a lottery ticket for the next big jackpot. Then when you win that you don't need to worry about it. ;)

When I was buying used, I consistently found sellers who couldn't fathom that their unit wasn't worth what they thought it was. And when I was selling our used coach, I couldn't fathom why no one thought my price was a 'steal'. :)

If that's a popular model, and if you don't need to unload it fast, then - yeah - maybe you can get $51K back. Of course don't forget the money lost on registration and taxes. That's not coming back.

You'd want to sell it around early Spring when folks are thinking about camping.
