couch and flooring replacement

Hi to all from Denny and Ida. We are looking forward to bringing our baby out of storage(2004 Granite Ridge) and getting it ready for our trips this year. We plan to take out the couch, take up the carpet, put wood laminate flooring down and replace the couch with a dinette. I will try to post pictures of our progress as we go along. If any one has any suggestions feel free to let us know. Denny and my wee blonde Ida
  • My wife and I were planning on doing our floor as well. We were weighing heavily on the ALLURE flooring, due to weight restriction; however after talking to the HD associate we have opted for 'roll' vinyl wood look alike. He (the associate) said that ALLURE is really not recommended for any temp below 55-we live in north Georgia and we regularly get below that.
I have opted to have a professional install as my measurements are often times not what I thought I measured..... It is to be installed within the week, and we are anxiously awaiting as we will be taking a trip very shortly.
  • I did some vinyl strip flooring that looks like wood. If I were to do it over, I would definitely go with the vinyl roll stuff. It looks good, feels good, wears well. You cut to shape, spread a little adhesive and lay it down. Way easier than working with the planks.

  • Most people rip out the dinette, replacing it with a couch.

Like you, we value the dinette much more than a couch. A few things learned with our dinette.

    1) The cushions should be smooth leather and have thinner memory foam, not cloth with thicker standard foam. The leather allows for easy sliding in and out, and the more dense memory foam is actually more comfortable to sit on for long periods of time, and will not deform like cloth with standard foam. The thinner foam also provides more room between you and the table.

    2) Use the latest table hanger design that attaches and pivots off the wall on one side, with a single leg on the other side that swings up and clips to the underside of the table when converting into a bed. This is not only easier to convert, but it offers much more leg room compared to what we have in our rig as seen by CLICKING HERE. I think one day we will change out our poles for the hanger setup.
  • I pulled the dinette, front chair and sofa out. I installed Ikea laminate flooring. We have a 1994 Winnebago 31' Brave. I laid down foam backing and the laminate flooring floats over the floor. The trim holds it down.

It is much easier to clean than the purple carpet that was installed. Here are some photos.

I ended up covering and trimming out the battery compartment cover. I cut up an outdoor floor mat and used screws and grommets to hold it down. A nice custom fit. I use the Ikea door mats with grommets for the automatic step cover.
