CRV toad

I own a 2012 Honda CRV. I purchased a Brake Buddy for the car. I would like to know if I need a toad charger to keep the car battery charged? I plan to set the Brake Buddy on #3 setting with the , radio,AC and everything else off "no fuses pulled". I drive about 6 hours per day. Second question without the toad charger how long should the battery last without needing a charge? Thanks for your help.
  • X2 on the fuse switch. The charge line will replace power used by braking system but that Nav system will suck the battery dry in a few hours.
  • I built a fuse cutout switch to turn off the entertainment system etc when towing. Otherwise, the battery would only last 3-4 hours powering the brakes. The CRV owner's manual gives you the fuse number(s) to either pull or switch out, plus the engine startup procedure. I'm also not sure you can flat-tow any of the CRVs except the AWD models. Again, check your owner's manual.

  • when I used a brake buddy I just plugged it into a small battery jumper, etc. that I wanted to have along anyhow. no messing with wires from MH, running down toad battery, etc.

  • My battery will go dead in a 5 hour trip so I made a battery charge line. But I never pulled a fuse. Might have to try it. I don't have a brake buddy either, just a cable to the brake pedal
  • I tow a 2012 Honda CRV with a brake buddy. I made and installed a disconnect switch for the ACC fuse, which is the radio, clock etc. Then I ran a separate line from the battery (of the CRV) to plug the Brake Buddy in. I don't have a charge line from the motorhome and have towed well over 8 hours with no problems. I do however start the CRV at the end of everyday and run through the gears and let the motor run for 5 or 10 minutes..
  • I would run the car every 6 hours to cycle the tranny and also for 10-15 minutes to charge the battery.
