Cummins oil pressure sensor

I need a oil pressure sensor for my DP that is on a Freight Liner chassis manufacture date is Dec 1996 with a Cummins 8.3 motor.....For some reason they seem to think I need to get it from a bus parts place because it is different than a truck. I am in central NC, 50mi South of Greensboro and 50mi West of Raleigh.......want to get in the car and go get it---NOW would be good.
  • I already ordered the ones from the dealer ------ if they are right....although my gauge is a gauge with a needle it is only red or green. Its a Freight Liner dash......what a pain.
  • Summit Racing had the unit for my Monaco Gauge. Mine is a VDO sending unit for a 0 to 160 psi gauge.
I would check with them. Let them know what PSI range your gauge is.
  • OK----some progress-I think. Those numbers mentioned above won't work as that part is for trucks equipped with a warning light....this one has 2 wires and the threaded part is much larger.....The correct one is supposed to be on the way from Tom Johnson RV in Concord, NC along with the transmission temp sensor that has been bad for awhile......more later.
  • Do a little research and call Gillig. They use parts that are commercially available too, I wouldn't think the oil pressure sender/gauge combination is a captive item. I'm doubt they would give you a hard time. As a customer QC rep, I monitored the build of 39 transit buses at the Gillig factory from punching the holes in the frame rails to final acceptance inspection of each unit. I found the Gillig people very good to work with.

A680-545-0324 is one of the four numbers that sender replaces. Gleen is correct that senders and gauges are matched. I would spend the $15 and see how close your new readings are to your old norms. Even if the new was 10 psi different, I could remember to add/subtract 10 from what it now reads.
  • NAPA makes one, but it does not read exactly correct, I had to get mine from Gillig so the gauge read correctly. The sender and the gauge have to be matched together, not so much a Cummins thing
  • They had it off yesterday and it does peg the gauge. Cummins says it left there for Freight Liner without one---Freight Liner says it left them with a plug and Winnebago provides it. Called the biggest dealer around here and they never got back to me called Winnebago and they told me to get in touch with a dealer......Ivy is that thing you show supposed to work? And is it ALL of those numbers?

OP, have you grounded the wire on the sender to see if it pegs the gauge?
On that non electronic 8.3 I would buy this one for $15 and see if it works OK. Cheaper than driving 50 miles. Do not want to gamble $15, call Cummins with the parts numbers on it and see if it will work.

Brette, glad to see you are now a Cummins man.
