Four adults with trailer?

I'm debating upgrading my 5th wheel bunk to either a motor home or a toy hauler. My goal is to be able to take motorcycles with me. Going to Sturgis this year!

We often travel with other couples, or my two teenagers. My concern is comfort for passengers both while riding and sleeping.

A Toy Hauler has plenty of private sleeping both in the master, garage and often a loft. Plenty of storage but may be limited to two motorcycles.

A Class A or C offers the ability to tow a trailer with the bikes but then kids or guest are sleeping on the pull out couch. When I was a kid I used to camp with relatives in a Class C (pre-slides) and remember getting car sick in the back. A Class A seems much more open so wondering about comfort of ride for passengers 3 & 4.

I welcome any advise!

I had a Raptor/F350 setup and opted to go to a Class A/Trailer setup. Several reasons, the biggest was I really needed to have a dually for the rig I was towing and there was no way I could drive a DRW for work. Plus the diesel MPG in town was about the same as when fully loaded towing and it was killing me. So with the swap we found we liked the layout of the Class A better, and honestly after making the same long run with both rigs I wasn't as tired after driving the Class A. The Class A also let me take our boat.

We have a 40' MH and all of my friends and family have been told - it sleeps TWO! You can bring your tents, or we will take you to your kid's house, you can eat here, but when bedtime comes, you go somewhere else. :C

Of course this game is sometimes about $ only... In my world I would not buy a coach around 1 event, but rather mostly for the median of usage. I would improvise and work solutions for the event itself.

However, if the event plays into the greater usage and justifies the expen$e of a new coach, then go for it!

Thank you all for the information. I've been almost full circle with camping; tent, pop up, travel trailer and now 5th wheel for the last 10 years. We've been looking to upgrade and have been doing a lot of soul searching to see what our plans are going to be for the next several year. My teenage kids still love to go but will be going off on their own in the next few years. Retirement is now within reach over the next few years and for the past 4-5 years we've been fitting in longer motorcycle trip, usually with another couple.

We're looking at travel and even considering wintering in an RV in the future. I see advantages and disadvantages to both 5er and class A. I'm leaning toward class A, better half is still drawn toward the room, fit and finish of a 5er toy hauler, but agrees that the trip itself from point A to point B would be nicer in a class A.

We go to music festivals with another couple ---5 days of dry camping and have never drained or filled a tank. And yes, we all shower each day.

Even with just our single living room/galley slide we have never felt that we were space constrained.

Saw aThorOutlaw in campground with good toy hauling coverts to sleeping and plenty of normal RV sleeping with loft. Toy area also was porch with screen and rear gate as deck if desired. Really need. He loved it slept 10 if needed.

4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

I have a older Class A.. 28 ft. 454 gas and pull a V-nose trailer hauling motorcycles.. If you get a 14 enclosed trailer you should have plenty of room for 2 bikes and gear.. The V-nose gives you 3 more feet in front to store stuff... I hauled a bike to the west coast and back stopping in Sturgis last year and used Pingel removable wheel chocks and had no problem at all..

Check out Renegade. As a toy hauler, you can get a pretty big garage, with a large area over the garage. Something in that class is going to ride well enough, you probably won't be able to tell you are rolling down the road.

Thank you both. Starting to lean more toward a Class A. It will have to be an older one to be within reach cost wise. I'm sure there is much more maintenance and not sure how much insurance will cost but it seems to be more in line with what our travel plans are over the next few years.

My wife and I have traveled many places with friends in our DP Class A over the last 5 years. In fact we did Sturgis this past year again with four of us, all adults and I pull a 20' Vnose enclosed trailer with the bikes and a golf cart. Fortunately we have a very comfortable folding couch that doesn't have that ole darn bar in the middle of your back.. 🙂 All the friends that sleep there say it is very comfortable. While driving, the others normally sit in the living area BS'ing while I'm boogieing down the rode. LOL.. Every now and then someone will come join me in the front to just chat. I love driving our DP and the couple we took actually have a 5ver Raptor toy hauler that is huge. Pretty sure it's a 37' they pull behind a Dodge. I let my buddy drive the DP some there and back and the whole time, he would look at me and say "you are seriously ruining us on our set up". He absolutely loved the way the DP drove and traveled.
We are heading out with some other friends (3) here in a week to do the Bourbon run and I'm sure we will enjoy as always.
Just experience we have had. Good luck and enjoy what ever you decide to do.

Try a class A or C with an enclosed trailer. Our friend does that (ironically for hauling HIS motorcycles) and the kids sleep in that trailer! works fine until they have to use the john during the night..LOL Can't help you about the car sick aspect
