How do you winterize water heater OUTput pipe?

Winterizing: after draining & bypassing water heater, how do you get pink antifreeze to the water heater's output pipe which exits from the top of the now empty water heater?

The water heater output pipe leads to the water manifold where the bypass valves are.

This water heater output pipe, between the water heater & bypass valve, seems to be left out of the winterization process?
  • If you have used air to blow out the system before adding the pink stuff it's not a problem.
  • I also believe that the draining process clears the water from that area. But the area I concern myself with is the area between the fresh water tank and the pump. I run the pump until only air spits out.
  • Since the bypass valve(s) should be open while the tank and lines are drained, there shouldn't be any water left in that short section. I've never heard of it being a problem for anyone.
  • I would "ASSUME" that the portion of pipe above the WH just drains down into the
WH tank. the part I worry about is the section of vertical pipe on the side of the tank that is shut off with a valve.I do not put any antifreeze in the WH tank or the FW tank.
