How to connect a grill

If you look at the video by downtheroad, there is a secondary regulator that he discarded. My thought with that video is to try it first with the extra regulator. If the flow is too low or not at all, then remove it.

I have sent a message to Georgetown to ask them what they expect customers to do with the outlet they have provided.

I've seen stories on the three RV website I visit regularly that convince me NOT to hook into the RV's system. There were tales from folks who tied in upstream of the RV's regulator about the long hose to the grill on the picnic table getting run over by people on bicycles and bursting. A very long flexible hose at tank pressure isn't a very good idea.

Other people tied in downstream of the RV regulator, but found that the regulator didn't have the fine control needed for the low flow-rate of a grill, compared to a gas stove or the furnace. One poster said he couldn't get the temperature of the grill down below 600 F, even with the temp control at its lowest setting.

For my Weber Q-100 grill, I bought a 10-lb "squatty" propane tank that has the same base ring as the 20-pounder. I bought a "base-ring stabilizer" from CW and bolted it to the floor of a stow-bin. It retained the tank so well that it didn't need secondary restraint. I usually only got it re-filled to about 5 pounds of propane so it was relatively easy to lift in and out of the stow-bin.

I was very comfortable with this arrangement. When we sold the RV, we kept the smaller tank to run the Q-100 as a back-up to our S&B's Q-220 when we need more grilling space.

What a great idea! I always haul around a couple small bottles and of course a full 20 pounder. I am going to look into this!

Thanks dale, that is almost what I was just thinking of.

My plan is to get a replacement Coleman Regulator so that I can take that same fitting off of one regulator and keep the other for when I use the grill stand alone.

It will cost more, but I am going to let a local furnace company do the work to create the new fitting.

Adding a port to your Motorhome propane system is easy and works well and is safe. I do recommend that if you are not qualified to add parts to the LP system that you hire a qualified person for this 15 minute job.

The part you need is: Marshall Excelsior G-415 Extend-A-Flow Tee ME415P

It installs between your shut off valve and regulator. Marshall sells the correct hose in a twelve foot length to then attach a BBQ, portable campfire, gas lights etc. The hose is approved for use as well. The hose is sized to fit the small regulator on most portable BBQs etc. It is the same sized thread as the top of the small 1 - lb disposable LP tanks.

We have a Road Trip and installed the Extend-A Flow. We never buy small canisters anymore. We have a "Little Red Campfire" as well and connect it to the RV gas for use.

It is safe, approved for use along with the accessories and saves you money.

Hose rated for LP use is at least 250 PSI rated. Not a problem for tank pressure use.

Using hose of a different construction is certainly cause for concern.

Extendastay adapters are different than BBQ adapters. Plus they already have every thing connected properly on the new MH. Most MHs come with everything now except the grill. Camco sells the adapter to properly adapt the grill. Or you can buy the special BBQ grill. Camco adapter is more practical.

Camco sells an adapter kit with a BBQ valve and 10 ft of hose. It includes the quick disconnect connector. There should he a valve on that quick disconnect connector on your MH. Normally it can't be connected unless the valve is off. There are many variations in connectors. I recently had a hose made up at a propane dealer for my portable firepit but had to furnish him a camco male connector. Camco quick disconnect connectors are pretty much the standard for RVs.
