Idle rough

Could this be my problem?

I checked last night. No arcing. The idle seemed a little better, but I never let it get up to operating temperature.

The doghouse is off. I've been told that there isn't an Idle Air Control on this particular V10, but I see one. I'm going to try to get it off and run some cleaner in it.

I also somewhat got the Mass Airflow sensor out (another possibility). But I never got it all the way off and cleaned like I would like. It sits in back of the air filter housing. I don't see any good way to get it off. What have any of you done to get at it? I sprayed it down as well as I could inside the housing.

I would start by checking to see if you have any arcing going on with the spark plug wires at night,they are probably 15 years old. You will have to remove the dog house cover to see, mine is tight also but I'm sure it will come out. Once the cover is off start the engine and let it idle if you see any arcing to the eng block replace the wires. Let us know what you find.

Yes its a Ford F53. No engine light. And it runs good above 1200 RPMs. It doesn't stall. I would be surprised if its plugs or coilpacks. I would think it would miss even more under load pulling all this down the road. I would think its a dirty Idle Air Control module but I'm finding out I don't have one.

Guessing your '99 vacationer is a Ford F53 chassis, seems this vital fact was not mentioned.

Do you have a check engine light?
And if you do can you find someone who will plug a code scanner into it?
Same ODB2 scanner as any modern car, any Autozone will do it.

You need to start with new spark plugs. V10's get bad coils, but those will throw a code and can be tested, don't want to replace them willy nilly.

As for not fixing things that aren't broke, I agree but... now that something is broke, it is time to catch up on the deferred maintenance

Wow - yes! I bought it from somebody I knew very well and I've now had it for 2 years with no problems. I don't fix things that aren't broke. It only has 45K on it now and we've put about 12K on it since we've had it. I'm looking for help more than criticism.

Poor maintenance practice and very counter productive. Just looking can sometimes save a ton of money. Look at the belts, hoses etc for wear. According o you your air filter has not been looked at for 12000 miles.
Who does a pretrip inspection for you or do you just say screw it and go

Thank you for YOUR response. I'll look again, but I've always commented that my doghouse man not come out without taking the chairs out. Like I said, things are tight. Getting out of the drivers seat is not easy. Need to trade up to a DP!

Removing the Dog house is easy on most gasers. Look for the obvious it does sound like a vacuum leak. With that said if you don't know what you are looking at what good does it do to look? Hire an RV mech for an hour or so to check things out in the engine compartment if he is any good he should be able to find your problem and recommend fixes in that time. good luck Don't let the criticism bother you most doing that knew everything even before they started RVing.

I disagree with your response, Had you done "Normal" P/M, You could eliminate the obvious, Filters, etc. As has been said before with a Motorhome, "You pay me now or pay me later".
