Inspection for extended service plan

Hi, and thanks for the comments about our buying a Sunrise 38J. The dealer is suppose to be fixing issues we found and do a through check of the coach and then doing a walk through with us prior to the signing of the check.

We have gotten a quote from wholesale warranties for an extended service plan. They also said they would need to do an inspection. As we are in Indiana with several inches of snow on the ground - they suggested doing it at the dealer's prior to/at the signing. Has anyone else done this? I haven't called the dealership to see if they would be alright with this; but if they are honest it really shouldn't be a problem or would this be a bad idea?
  • I wouldn't worry about what the dealer thinks. It is just like having your mechanic give the unit a once over, prior to purchase.
You are going to pay around $200.00 for the inspection, The inspector checks everything, the engine, trans, levelers, all 12 volt,110 volt, awnings etc. He checks things you wouldn't think of checking. Anything broke, they will not warranty.
I had it done, very happy,

    Terry.
  • For ours, they simply wanted to make sure there actually WAS a coach. They sent a guy out who did a walk thru, made some notes and was on his way....YMMV....Dennis
  • Dealership was where they did ours. One less appointment I had to keep- it was a seamless event. BTW, don't rely on the dealerships PDI. I had my own inspector go through my coach, and then after the dealerships PDI, I found more issues that were supposed to be corrected and were overlooked for what ever reason. I ended up doing 3 inspections as I wanted to do a new complete inspection each time the dealership had their tech in there. And each time I found issues. you are in the drivers seat as long as you have the money in your hands.

As exhausting as this process was for me, in the end, the dealership came through and did the "right thing."
  • I've had two warranties from Wholesale and hence two inspections. The inspector checked to make everything was working, in my case everything was working, so no problem. We also had to take the motor home out on a 5 or 10 mile (can't remember which) to check brakes, shifting smootly etc. It the inspection was no big deal.

Have the inspection done after the dealer says it's ready and before you sign the check.
  • Thanks for all the replies. This our first purchase of a motorhome and still feeling nervous! So much more than with the 5th wheel.
  • to superclub since I failed to connect to your post.

Thank you for your feedback. Since you had two done I take it you were well pleased with the company?!

I've been trying to find out as much as I can about the extended service agreements....checking with various rv forums, BBB reports, etc.; but still unsure.
  • The first one I had, I sold the motor home after a year and transferred the warranty to the new owner, never had cause to use it. My current motor home I have a Wholesale warranty contract and I just used it for the first time. They paid, so, yes I'm pleased with them. I talked to the owner in Quartzsite, and one of the nice things, at least he said you could do, is if you have problems, you can call him directly. Wholesale warranty isn't the insurer per se, they're brokers for various companies that offer extended warranties, which are really extended service contracts. They're similar to many independent insurance brokers. One of the reasons I went with them, was all the good comments I read about them on here and other sites.
