Leveling

Question for you guys. I have a TT, but the next move will be to a MH in a few years (at least we think that is what we want). Well, we are at a campground that has some pretty uneven sites. I always carry enough stuff with me to get level. I rounded up some cinder blocks for a rather large DP on the next site. He raised the complete front off the ground so we could put the blocks under the tires, then brought the jacks up to put some blocks under them, just to get the rig level. Others just have their front tires hanging. My question, is this the correct way to level? I would imagine that the suspension is designed to support the weight of a rig (push it up in the air), not sit there and dangle. I am asking for my own future knowledge and if I am asked for help again.

    Personally I'd NEVER have the front tires off the ground and carry boards to use under the tires. As to the rear tires NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, raise them off the ground. The MH brakes are only on the rear axle and you take the chance of having the unit shift and ripping your jacks off the frame. If the site is that un-level request to be moved to a more level site.

    With my front axle at almost 15,000 lbs I sure wouldn't trust cinder blocks to hold it for very long....no, none of my wheels EVER leave the ground when leveling. I'd find another more level spot or a more level campground....Dennis

    Have had 3MHs with leveling systems. I have lifted the front wheels off the ground many times if nessary to get level. Never have had a problem. DPs with front entrys can require additional steps.

    We set up 5 blocks in a pattern such that there were safe steps into the rig. Looks pretty onerous.

    I will snap some pics and post later, maybe when they head out...it don't want to look like the paparazzi taking pics of their rig.

    Front off the ground is OK if there is no large side to side off level.

    Our driveway goes down a foot from the sidewalk, and tilts 6 inches to the left at only the lower end.

    I have to be VERY careful levelling to keep 3 tires on the ground, almost impossible to keep 4 down.
    I usually pull in (jacking the front) but sometimes if we a doing a major loadout, I'll back in, keeping the entry door toward the house. 2 motorhomes (1 gas 1 diesel) hundreds of trips.

    I've yet to have the box on sticks roll into the pool.

    I discovered that with kick down jacks it probably is not a good idea to lift the front tires off the ground.

    Never use cinder blocks to support any vehicle at any time. They will eventually fracture, and collapse without warning, with the resultant damage to the vehicle and injury to any person that may be underneath or in a position to get hurt when the vehicle drops.
    The use of wooden blocks or jack stands are recommended at any time a vehicle must be raised and supported.
