Mice.

My Winnebago Aspect sits on a 2007 Ford E450 chassis. I'm having trouble with mice while it is in storage. I've found two spots where they are getting in. The easy one to fix was around the electrical cord from the generator where it entered the motor home. They chewed thru a grommet. The spot I can't seem to block is I believe entering from the engine compartment into the cab. I can't find the exact spot. I've sprayed "pest proof" expandable foam into a few spots where wiring enters, but they are still getting in.

Anybody win a similar battle? Any suggestions other than keep trapping? Thanks.

Was in a campground in the East part of the state and noticed many vehicles had their engine hoods open. Was told that if you don't want trash up on your engine or your wiring chewed you will do that.
Opened my hood the next day and sure enough there was sticks and trash on top of my battery. Left it open and no more problem the next couple days we were there.
Apparently was a ground dwelling type of pack rat there that did all the damage under the hood in the dark.

How about using an electronic trap like Rat Zapper Ultra Rodent Trap.

A friend resorted to one of these when squirrels ate up his wiring in his Class C twice. I think he killed a dozen of those darn things before they decided to call his coach off-limits.

I use decon poison... we had the same problem with our farm equipment/trucks, and it was the only way to successfully control them when there seems to be an endless supply moving in and causing damage.

sprinkle a few pellets of the decon around the engine compartment and place a packet or two inside the coach... after eating the decon, they leave the coach to find water and never come back.
equally as satisfying is the fact that while they are in residence, they have something to eat other than the wiring...

after trying to plug the holes they make with steel wool or silicone, only to have the varmits chew thru another area, the decon is the most effective remedy that we have found for long term use with the very least amount of effort...

Update: Tried the Fresh Cab. Nope, that didn't work. Wish I could see where they are getting into the cab thru the engine compartment.

I used pure peppermint oil. A few drops on cotton balls in several places. No more mice!!

Big word of caution about mice and my ford V10 Mice got into the air cleaner plastic housing and ate the paper air cleaner element. It stuck to the mass air flow sensor and prevented the engine from running. The air intake was not completely clogged, just filter pices lying up against the sensor wires. Not good!!!!

I had a huge problem with squirrels. They got up into the engine compartment, chewed through the main wiring harness at the firewall, and even took off all the insulation from the battery cables. What I did was put two deflated footballs in the area so they would not have room. The other thing is get some bronze wool, is like steel wool, but wont rust. Plug all the openings with it. If you keep your rig plugged in, they can climb the cord and enter that opening. Make sure the cord is hanging down a complete 90 degrees, which makes it much harder for them. Between mice and squirrels I went through he__. Good luck

As to the steel wool: my younger son, who's done a lot of rodent-proofing in houses, prefers to use the copper scrubbing pads that you can still get in a good hardware store. They're coarser than steel wool, and the copper will generate a little electrical current when chewed on. He pulls it out so there's room to put the foam nozzle right in the middle of the whole thing, and the foam then fills the spaces between copper strands.

X2, this stuff works great. It will keep mice out of a lot of stuff!!! Easy to use and no dead mice.

The mice ate my Irish Spring too! At least their poop smelled nice!
See you on the road!

4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

Well----I can tell you what DOESN'T work: Irish Spring soap!

Last year I read on an RV forum that pieces of Irish Spring would repel mice. So I bought several bars, as well as some netting fabric . I cut each bar in to pieces, carefully tied them up in each pouch of netting, and placed them in all storage compartments and some interior cabinets.

Fast forward to this spring: My husband brought me a few "pouches" and mentioned that I needed to wrap them better..........I looked at them and noticed many sets of little micey tooth marks all over the soap! Those little buggers had chewed through the netting and eaten the soap!

So much for the Irish Spring Soap Theory!

Guess I'll try something different this year ;}

(Lucky for us--we haven't noticed any other mouse signs or damage)
