Model year input please 2006+

Greetings! My wife and have decided on getting a Class C. Due to loan limits we need to stay with a 2006 or newer and I am fine with that. I also know the Fords got a new facelift in 2008. I would prefer as Chevy as I personally think they are better trucks, but I am comfortable with the 6.8 V10 in the Ford as I have owned a 2002 Excursion and it seems that most "class C's are built on E450 drivetrains.

So I am pretty sure I will end up with a Ford, is it worth it to splurge on the 2008 even though it may pop the budget? Are there any significant advantages to going with the 2008 over a 2006-07 besides looks? Thanks Much!!!!

  • I have a 2006 Winnebago Aspect 26A on an E450 chassis with the 6.8. I am perfectly happy with it. I know for the 2008 model year Aspect 26A there were no significant changes. I don't know about other similar class C's though. I guess what I am saying is that I suspect your question will be difficult to answer unless you have a specific model in mind.

For me, it would depend upon how much over budget? Unless there are significant differences, I would rather spend the difference enjoying the RV. :)

So it mosly is cosmetic with the new body style for the 08's +/-. No mechanical benefit? Much appreciated

This should expand my search then, and Ill just keep the 06-07's in my searches.

Actually, the changes were more than just cosmetic. Ford improved the front end to raise the axle rating, allowing a higher GVWR, while also making it longer lasting. There were also some changes to the brakes resulting in shorter stopping, and better control from 4-channel ABS.

  • When my wife and I decided to get something a "little" bigger and newer than our 97 24' Coachmen,we were looking for something that had the newer Ford (I preferred Ford) van front. I figured if we're getting something newer, why not get the newer look.
We actually went to the extreme with what we ended up with, in both year and length.

Good comments above. Also, you will find 2008 rigs that are built on the 2007 chassis, so when shopping you will see both the new "look" and the old one in 08 coaches.

Go with the floor plan, mileage, condition, etc., and don't worry about the difference the new look might make.

    Good luck and happy camping.

    Adding to what demon said...

Many coach companies change the vehicle's model year to the next year, based upon the month that the MH was built on the chassis. My MH is a 2005 and is registered with the DMV as a 2005, but was built on a 2004 E450. Since it was built in the last half of the 2004 it gets designated as a 2005 model year.

If you want the chassis to be a specific model year or newer then run its VIN. You may find that the MH you are interested in has a chassis that is 1 model year older than the coach.

  • Our Aspect is on a E450 Ford chassis. Has been doing its job well.

I should have stated. Our MH is a 2008 on a 2007 chassis.
  • Nothing changed to speak of in the chassis or the engine/drivetrain as far as I know. Pick one that you like, that has been well maintained, has mileage that you are comfortable with, etc. In other words, it's more about the motorhome than the chassis if the only difference is 2006 to 2008 model year.
