New dometic 2852 issues and comments

I just replaced my old and original refrigerator, the Dometic 2852 with a brand new one, with the same model number, 2852. My old frig had the Climate Control Switch and the new frig does not. It worked fine until it got pretty humid and the fins where dripping alot of water. The pan collected the water and then dripped into the cup which was overflowing into the refrig. I went out side, removed the frig. vent cover, inspected the drain tube, blew into it and water blubbled out of the cup. So I knew it wasn't plugged. Water then stated dripping into the cup and draining thru, but never out of the end of the drain tube. Eventually it filled the cup and started draining inside the frig.
(I did the install my self with the help of a qualified rv tech)

Any thoughts on what's going on?

I also watched video from the Ford's RV Frig Tech website and they say to put a trap in the condensation tube before letting it drain outside. This way water will stop any air from getting inside the frig cabinet. Anybody try that?

Last question about the thermister, how does it work and what does it do? Does the clip just slide up and down on the bulb or does the bulb/wire pull something inside?

thanks in advance
  • The 'P' trap (dip in hose) will keep warm air from going up drain hose into food section. As long as it allows the cup to fully drain....good deal.
The plug keeps the critters out
  • Curious, you stated help with an experienced RV tech. IF SO, you would NOT have had these problems. When you get a new Dometic refer, they loop the drain line around inside the coils. If you read, the instructions and ARE an Experianced RV tech, then you KNOW to uncoil that drain line and then either loop it or make a homemade P trap to not allow air to migrate up inside. These are the actual steps for the drain line. You can rely on the plastic drain hose end, but some like the P trap type design. I believe they did away with the climate control because they had so many complaints about inadequate cooling when the switch was on. The actual condensate switch was NOT for Fin water, but to stop the condensation on the inside frame around the 2 doors of the refer. The CLIMATE switch which was also part of the older systems left the Interior light ON to keep items from freezing on the lower area in cooler climates. Doug

CONDENSATE WATER DRAIN HOSE: A 3/4" hole must
be drilled through the flooring in the opening of the base
plate on the rear of refrigerator (see FIG. 5D). The installer
must make sure that the hose does not kink when run
through the floor. Seal around the hose where it goes
through the hole. If a longer hose is required, follow the
    illustration shown below:
    OPTION A:
    1) Remove black water check valve from hose.
    2) Add additional hose
    3) Reinstall black water check valve
    OPTION B:
    1) Cut drain hose at location shown below.
    2) Install new drain hose between pieces cut.
NOTE: Black water check valve must be reinstalled to
ensure proper refrigerator operation. DO NOT KINK HOSE.
    OPTION C:
In vehicles where routing the drain hose through the floor
is not possible, a metal clip is available. The clip is used to
drain water out through the side vent.
Part No. 3106590.007 Clip for plastic side vent (Qty. 50)
Part No. 3106590.015 Clip for plastic side vent (Single)
Part No. 3106559.002 Clip for metal side vent (Qty. 50)
Part No. 3106559.010 Clip for metal side vent (Singl

UPATE, I just got brave and went outside and removed the refrig exterior cover and pulled slowly on the drain tube till I felt some resistance. I pulled an additional 12" of black drain hose. Water came running out. I then blew into the hose and my wife could here the air movement inside the refrigerator, so I know that everything is still connected. So the reason the water was leaking into the frig. was that there was a kink in the drain line which was acting like a p-trap but not low enough for the water to drain out the tube but drain back into the frig thru the cup.

To reinstall the cover with tube protruding outside, I did put another kink or p-trap into the line, but it is much lower and the outflow is way below the cup inside the frig so it won't back up.

Question: should I cut the hose and remove the p-trap? (I do have the drain plug installed)
  • Don't know why Dometic did away with the Climate Control Switch :H

The drain line needs to be positioned downward so small cup inside food section doesn't hold water. Cup should only collect water from drip pan and then direct it out into drain tube.
Tube should be positioned out the bottom vent cover and have a plug in end of it to keep critters etc out of tube.

The 'thermistor'....is the temp sensor for the pre-set temp control.
The end of thermistor (bulb) should just stick out top of plastic clip and the clip is attached to the right side fin.....mid-position.

You can make minor adjustments to temp (6*-8*F) by moving the clip.
    Moving it UP/Colder
    Moving it DOWN/Warmer

After moving wait 24 hrs. to check results.
