This is quite possibly the problem you are seeing. Oils and heavy ends remaining in liquid propane from refinery producers can cause carb/vaporizers to clog their small passages pretty quickly and the heat used to vaporize the LP tends to bake the deposits into a hard carbon like mess. Companies who operate forklifts on propane see this as their number one repair problem.
Propane that is stripped from natural gas is generally a lot cleaner, but we don't always know what we are buying and can see problems like you are experiencing as a result.
