Last Friday we got on the PA Turnpike pulling our Equinox as we have done since we got it in 2013. I never bothered getting EZ-Pass for the rig so I always went thru the cash lanes. While entering the toll booth cash only lane to get my ticket, the ticket machine would not spit out a ticket. I hit the call button and shortly after an attendant arrived to tell me that the toll reader had actually read the transponder that was in my Equinox and that I would be charged the correct amount for the combined weight/axles of the rig and the toad.
Duh, this was the first time I tried towing the Equinox with a transponder in it, didn't realize that it would work that way.

For Pa. just list it as something under that weight so you have a personal account. Mine is way over max weight and pull a trailer. It always calculates the toll correctly but runs my $35 hold out very quickly. The commercial account IIRC requires a $200 balance.

Got my pass for the coach in my home state of Virginia. When registering the coach the menu choices included "Recreation Vehicles or Motor Homes". The sub group was further sub divided by axle count and tire count then further divided by under 7000 lbs. or over 7000 lbs. Ended up with a blue transponder just for the coach. No service fees but I did have to preload the account with $35 worth of toll fees.

I usually try and avoid toll roads if at all possible but when I can't having the pass makes the drive that much easier.

I was a Luddite when it came to EzPass, but finally gave in this year. Got me a Delaware pass, seemed to be the easiest. I have two, one for the RV and one for my daily driver. I can also put that one in the Toad if I want to, but I have to remember to bag it when towing. Not sure I'll bother, so far the majority of places I go I don't need to deal with tolls in the toad, only getting to the local in the rig while towing. Anyway, I have to admit, I really like the convenience of EzPass

Some of you may not know this, but you can purchase an Illinois "Ipass", regardless of where you live. It works in all the places ezpass does and you do not pay a yearly fee. You do pay a deposit which is returned if you return the transponder. You use the same transponder in your toad if desired. Manage online no brainier. Been using it for a year works great. I under stand it will start to work in Florida later this year.

X2 NY E-ZPass does not classify vehicles by weight for transponder account purposes. Just make sure you don't get one from the NY-NJ Port Authority or you will be charged a monthly fee since they abide by the NJ rules.

If you travel the NY Thruway from time to time, the NY pass with the motorhome/RV deal might be worth getting; it basically lets you pay auto toll rates on the thruway for the motorhome, a significant savings. It's available without a periodic monthly or yearly fee. You don't have to be a resident of the state you get your transponder from.

I found this in the FAQ's section on the PA EZ pass website.

"Can I use my transponder in my RV?

If you have an RV, with a gross vehicle weight over 15,000 pounds, you will need to open a commercial account. If you have an RV that has a gross vehicle weight of 15,000 pounds or less, you may add it to your personal E-ZPass account. Please be prepared with your weight, tires and axles when calling to add an RV to your account. You may require a separate transponder programmed for the specific weight class of the RV."

You should be able to find your gross vehicle weight on a data plate in your RV.
