Power

My AC power stopped working a few hours ago. I checked my fuses. Checked the park power and that was good. Everything is running fine on the generator. Anything else I can check for? I appreciate any help. I have a 2001 Fleetwood, Ford chassis.
  • Are you using an adapter-- if so, check power on the female/"out" side.

Check where shore power cord comes into coach (Unplugged from shore power/generator off).

Do you have an ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch)? If so (Unplugged from shore power/generator off) open it and check that connections are clean and tight.

Lastly, same thing at coach 120 VAC main breaker box.
  • How about the circuit breaker box? The main breaker may have flipped. Reason unknown. You're sure you're getting power from the pedestal?

G'luck! I'm sure the tech mavens here at the forum will reply......and give you totally incomprehensible answers......lol
  • What model of rig?
    Are you using an adapter?
Do you have a removable shore power cord?
Your breakers inside the rig is good because the system works good on genset.
I am thinking that you could have a loose wire in the shore power cord. Check each conductor with an Ohm Meter. This can be done from one end to other end of shore power cord.
Next possibility is a failed transfer switch.
  • Do you have a 50 amp cord or 30 amp?

Do you have an energy management system?

Do you have 1 A/C or 2? One or two thermostats?

If you have a 30 amp service to the RV, normally they also include a energy management system, and that might be the cause of the problem.

If you have a 50 amp service to the RV, and are plugged into a 50 amp receptacle, it might be the outside circuit breaker is partly tripped, and shut off - turn back on might solve everything. Or you might have a problem with the transfer switch, so that one phase is not conducting power while on shore power. (this would be rare problem).

If you have 2 A/C units and a 30 amp system, you might have a switch that only allows running one A/C at a time on shore power, but would have a 5,500 watt Onan generator with a 20 and 30 amp breaker on the generator. The 30 amp will power all the normal appliances on the 30 amp main panel, while the 20 amp generator breaker will only power one of the A/C units.

    Good luck,

    Fred.
  • Are you saying the air conditioner works when you run the generator?
  • It's a 2001 Fleetwood Southwind. My shore power runs into a box. It is not a plug-in type.I will open the box and look. I'm not sure if I have an ATF. Where do I look for that?
  • Another comment. After running the generator for about one hour I turned it off and the AC Power was back on.
  • Glad it came back to life!
    Your problem may come back.
The transfer switch is normally located near the converter.
Sounds like a bad connection. Inspect the shore power cord body. Look for burnt blade or other signs of heat.
  • Thanks. The shore power cord looks good. I'll look for that transfer switch.
I'm thinking it might come back also.
