It's not the propane that is the problem, it is the flame and sparking ignition from propane operated appliances which might, though I'll admit it's probably a VERY slight chance, ignite the gasoline vapors.
If you're surrounded by diesel pumps, then no problem at all.
Yes, I DO shut off our refrigerator (and furnace if it's running) when refueling, as well as the generator. But we've got a gas rig and I do it mostly 'cause I don't have any control over what other folks might do while they're refueling. I don't want to be caught up in their "Hey watch this...." YouTube video. :)
