Rear Lights ( Brake,Signal & Running)

Apparently you have lost your ground to the socket which provides the the common ground to both of the filament to the light bulb and this will indicate the dimming of the lights.The ground is feeding through one of the bulbs, it is also possible that one of the filaments split and is touching (some times both filaments will weld together in a short) thus splitting the voltage 12v to 6v at the bulb to both lights and explains the dimming of the lights. you may just need to remove the light bulb and check for possible short. Actually it's NOT OK for your AMBERS to be brake lights. Yes, I kind-a agree with you that "more lights are better" but, for the general public out there, and the "norm" they see on a day to day basis, while following just about any car/truck/motorhome/motorcycle etc. down the road, they WILL NOT SEE AMBER BRAKE LIGHTS. So, in high traffic conditions, freeways, crowded county roads, intersections, looking for campsites in cities etc., it may be confusing to drivers behind you.

Now, they're behind you so, you might not care about what they think. It's up to you. Bad grounds are a very common problem with vehicle lighting. It's something that maybe might be part of your problem. And, you may have touched something, wiggled something etc. that may have temporarily improved that ground which, may have made your Brake lights actually work where they're supposed to, without you actually doing ANYTHING.

I tackled my issues on rear lights.....My lights are working OK now but don't ask me what we did to solve the issue? Even though I'm saying it is solved it still works OK but now the brake lights are working on the red lens and also on the amber lens which is OK...the more lights the better. The signal lights and emergency lights work OK so I am leaving well enough alone.

Hey Jose,
If you read his last post, he cannot inter-change his lenses. And, he also stated that his AMBER are both BRAKE AND TURN lights, not "marker and turn". The law technically does not permit rear facing AMBER lights with the exception of turn signals. And, for AMBER to be used as brake lights, that was used prior to some law changes way back when.

His coach is an '02 which, by most manufacturers standards, they knew what was the correct application for AMBER and RED tail light lenses. And that is to use AMBERs for turn signals ONLY. Reds are for tail and brake application.

OP, I looked around a bit on line to see if I could find your particular 2002 Allegro Bus tail light arrangement and, found what I think you have. Your Amber is at the top of a stack, correct? And, since you've stated that your AMBER does dual duty, BRAKES AND TURN, I'm assuming you have a single filament bulb in that housing, correct?

This is a bit odd, to say the least. If you were to switch the plug/bulb with the one below it, then your problem would be taken care of but, what to do with the AMBER then. To run the AMBER as a constant ON, as in tail light, is also not cool with the law. Not sure if you'd get pulled over for it but, just trying to figure this out with you.

It seams to me that if your orange and red lenses are interchangeable
you could take the orange lens which is acting up as marker light and turn signal and exchange it with one of the red running lights lens, it would work OK no wiring problems. There was a time that some cars even came out with red and orange running lights, but only the red light acted as turn signal and marker lights. Hope this may help you out.

Rather than switching around a few wires, it may simply be a matter of switching around a few lenses. Perhaps someone took them off to clean or reseal or something and put them back on in the wrong places. (That does assume they are not various shapes or sizes.)
