Don't know if anyone was following this - its cute but sad, and probably reflects some of our experiences with CW.

We took ours back to camping world for a "we owe" on the AC from the purchase. Within 60 minutes of being told 6 more weeks and I was a fool because it didn't have 3 ACs (which it does), I busted into the door of the GM to get resolution. After they checked it in, the Service Manager said the stupidest thing I ever heard, but it was probably true. He asked us not to be mad with the service writer because he was only doing his job- he pays him to discourage people and send them down the road because the shop is so busy.

I hear a lot of horror stories about RVs, especially new ones.

Maybe some of y'all experienced and mechanical types should start a service. Say, $100 for a complete and thorough inspection - road test, walk-around, and overnight at a campground. This service would include a complete, comprehensive report. Obviously, the new owner would not finalize the transaction until the comprehensive inspection is complete.

Just a thought - - - -

And all of the treats and horror stories you read from dis-satisfied customers would be directed to you. I would not step inside a RV to inspect it for $100. Maybe $1000 and then I would be reluctant. Sign your name on that comprehensive report and you will be spending your life trying to please that customer. Everyone wants to blame someone else for their shortcomings. Rv'ers need to educate themselves so they can make competent decisions or stay out of the fray.

I feel for the guy as well but feel that his story is very immature and incomplete. He complains a lot and the video is a bit over the top (for me) but he is all complaint and no action or resolution. When purchasing such an item, follow thru is everything.

"Not heard from CW". Take it to the state AG. Demand results or get a lawyer.

Well in the story as noted in the OPThors Follow Up I think Bill has the Best Idea

"Here’s a suggestion Bill makes when it’s time to shop for a new RV: “I went with a used 2006 Four Winds with a Chevy engine from El Monte Rentals. My theory was that for insurance purposes, they have to keep things maintained and safe for rental customers so when they decide to sell them, at least most things have been fixed. Sure, we had to buy new tires and some minor details had to be fixed, most of which I was able to do. Took it to a mechanic who said it drove great and all looked good. We drove it 8,000 miles our first summer across the country with no problems…engine hardly used any oil and had a great time. We have bought used cars from car rental agencies too and they always seem to be in good shape. With people suing for almost anything, these rental companies have to be on top of maintenance or they will be out of business.”

I agree :B

Wow, you are in for some fun. I bought a '94 Bounder diesel and had to fix nearly every major appliance the first two years. BUT, boy did I have fun...traveling and fixing things. I love fixing things.

You might find some help on my repair blog...Here...

There is already such a service. And has been for decades. It's the same kind of thing that there is for boats. And it's around $300 for a thorough inspection of an RV.

DW and I bought a 2016 Thor ACE in last February. So far, we have put almost 8K miles and spent about 70 days/nights living in it. Did not have any of those issues. Granted, I bought from a different dealer, one that did a complete prep before we took possession. I don't think it is a problem with Thor or ACE, but the dealer prep. JMHO

I feel for the guy. It's hard as a first time owner to know what to look for, even if someone tells you. Often the excitement overshadows a thorough inspection.

Somethings do not show up on the PDI, only when you actually start traveling and using the MH. After our first campout, we had a list of things that needed repair, or adjustment. I kiddingly said to the tech that we had purchased a "training MH" and he said, oh, this is nothing, you should see the problems on the $500,000+ on the MH that just came in for service, the same day. But both the dealer and Fleetwood stood behind our problems.

When I purchased my first camper, which was a pop-up, we looked at several. Common sense told me that if I could see daylight under the spot where the bed met the wall, there was something wrong! And when the door would not shut right (because it was bound), the RV dealer tried to tell me it's because it wasn't sitting perfectly level (which it looked level to me on that asphalt parking lot), and the canvas material was guitar string tight with no give ... um ... it didn't take much to figure out, I needed to walk!

Just because someone is a first time buyer does not necessarily mean a little common sense can spare them a lot of grief later. Unfortunately, common sense does not exist any more!

Interesting. He suggests people do their homework, but obviously didn't himself.

He likely did not do any homework but I for one wouldn't pick on him as I did none also before my first. I feel like I was quite lucky. However I know plenty including forum friends that have purchased their first with no homework and were not so lucky.
