Toad project, test drive successful .

Fabricated brackets to mount to my aftermarket bumper on my Jeep. They bolt through the bumper to the frame. I have a falcon all terrain tow bar so i

hooked it up to my 2500 and towed it around the neighborhood to get the feel of it. Now I have flat towed cars

before but it's been a while, was weird looking in the mirror and seeing my jeep back there. it tracked really well. Had some issues getting the jeep in

neutral. The owners manual is vague. I couldn't get it to go back into two wheel drive and i wasn't sure if it was

supposed to be running or not.
  • What I do when hooking up my toad is right after hooking up to the RV, while the engine is running, put the trans in the appropriate gear (in my case 2nd) and the transfer case in neutral. I then release the clutch and if the engine is still running (doesn't stall from being in gear) I know it is set correctly for towing.
  • I have an automatic. It's difficult to get the transfer case to budge without the engine running, they say to select neutral with the engine off. IDK
  • Yeap, it is not easy, but it is what you need to do. It MUST be in neutral, and my 2 jeeps called for the tranny in Park. Any other combination will fry the transfer, the tranny or both.
Don't worry, it will loosen up with use.

Found a more detailed explanation on Quadratech's website. My 08 is easy to transfer from one range to another but not without the engine running. Going into neutral is fine coming out

is a different story. Their method says, once you reach your destination Shift the automatic into neutral, it was in park, shift the transfer case into desired position then shift the transmission

into drive. Then they say Note: It may be easier to shift the transfer case if you start the engine first.

The owners manual doesn't say that. The OM just warns about towing on a dolly, front wheels up.
