We hooked up this morning and have no turn signals, no brake lights. We tried to check fuses and so did some service guys - no luck. Now parked at a place that checked fuses, some wires, etch. They suspect wiring in steering column. The manager here in Gorham, NH is going to call around tomorrow and try to find us a place that we can get to. Of course we will be driving without turn signals or brake lights. Camping world south of us does not to do Freightliner Chassis work. Anyone got any ideas?2000 Tiffin Zephyr 42.5 ft.

Verify that you have power through the chassis battery disconnect to the fuses and relays in the front compartment driver's side. Use a test lamp or meter.There should be a main fuse in this area. Check to see what else is not working. Items that could be effected are hot when ignition switch is off.

On our rig, the side marker lights are dual filament, and flash with the turn signals. And when there's a bad bulb in the marker light, te turn signals don't work. Just a thought . . . al

Check out the emergency flasher switch. Might be bad/corroded/broken contacts or a bad switch. Last time I had a brake light problem, cleaning the contacts fixed it for me.

Since you have a Freightliner chassis, write down your last 6 digits of your vin number then call the free Freightliner help desk at 1 800 FTL HELP. They can look at the actual wiring diagram for your coach, and point you to the most likely component that has failed. They have been a big help to me several times.Fred

My Freightliner chassis class A had a fuse panel in the left very rear compartment that took me forever to find. Has brake light, tail light, turn signal fuses in it.

Face the compartment and tap the panel to your right. Mine was painted black like the rest of the walls and NO decals or markings on it. A whole bunch of fuses and wiring back there. Fixed my brake light problem on my toad wiring harness.

About 6 black painted screws held it on.

Aha, learn something every day. All my rigs have separate turn signals vs brake light bulbs.

If you have a combination brake / turn lights than the power to brake lights must go thru the turn signal switch. If not the brake light signal would over ride the turn signal. Thus no turn signal on application of brakes

Disconnect the tow, and keep testing fuses and wires with your multimeter.

Based upon very recent personal experience, check the ground connection first for the wiring harness, or the motor home fuses.

I'll second that. I had a '97 Holiday Rambler Endevour which lost the diode. Freightliner was very helpful in solving my problem. The doide is buried in several feet of a large wiring bundle and rather than trying to dissect it out, I opted for simply running another line with a new (actually a couple of paralled diodes) to handle the current. The wiring schematic I got from Freightliner enabled me to find the end points of the wire containing the failed diode.

Dana, I believe Freightliner used a diode in the turn signal circuit. Its located in a wiring harness in or under the steering column. This diode has been known to fail. As suggested call Freightliner with vin and get info to chase this down.

Electricity is like water. Flows from source to point of least resistance. Find the source and trace with a test light.
