Video Monitor HELP!

We have a 10 year old German Shepard who is traveling with us on our next trip in the Class C. We would like to be able to keep an eye on the camper and the Dog while we are out. My question is what does everybody use for a camera and how does it hook into free wireless? Do we need a hot spot? We have Consumer Cellular for phone service. Any advice would be a Great Help. Thanks in Advance!
  • I have been using Reolink IP Cameras for a bunch of years. I installed 8 at our neighborhood pool and 2 at our house. I monitor all 10 with an app on my phone or by directly connecting to them in a web browser. All of these are wired.

    Reolink makes WiFi cameras as well as a 4G Camera. I have not used the 4G camera, but I have used 3 different models of their wired cameras and they are great. Reolink has great customer service.

    The IP cameras I use do not require a large amount of bandwidth. The 8 cameras at our neighborhood pool uses a neighbor's WiFi fed into a router using a Ubiquiti NanoStation. Usually the download speed is about 3 - 7 mbps at the router, so not that great, but it is enough for the 8 cameras.

    The 4G camera is a little pricey and you would need to setup a data account for it. The camera only uses bandwidth if you are viewing the live stream. Since it is monitoring your dog, there wouldn't be a need for alerts (email or push), but the camera does support them.

  • Any monitor that you would use in your home could be used in the RV (nanny cams, pet cams etc). The caveat is that they require wifi. Campground wifi isn't reliable enough so you would need a hotspot and preferably a data plan with unlimited data. They provide a stream you can access on your phone.

    Here's a cheap one;

    Thanks that realy helps
  • Buy another phone and set FaceTime to auto answer.

    Don't rely on free WiFi for something that important.
