wheel cover nuts

have a 2005 pace arrow 37a and want to check the air pressure in the rear tires.I am having trouble in getting yhe 2 nuts off of the wheel cover.I tried a inch and half socket but it was to small.I think that I need an inch and nine sixteentn to do it ,but Iam having trouble finding one.I tried a lug nut cover pliers, but they bent.Thank you for any help.
  • There should be enough room between tires to reach the valve stem. you will need a pressure gauge that holds the reading until it manually released
  • If the covers you're talking about are like mine and many others I've seen, there is a large T-handled deep well socket that came with the unit specifically to remove these nuts. They shouldn't be on very tight as they only hold the cover on, not the wheel. That being said, a week ago I had to fix a tire on a unit that came into our shop and I guess the last person to touch those nuts used air to tighten them down....NOT necessary. Have you looked to see if you have one of these sockets rat-holed away somewhere in your unit?
  • I had the same problem with my 2004 37C Pace Arrow. The tool just bent.
Because the nut is covered it is not easy to find a socket for it.
I measured it in MM and mine was 41 MM. I ordered one from the Internet.

If you are talking about the stainless steel nut cover.....that cover just pulls off on most units so that you can put the socket on the steel nut itself.
On my coach, I have eight lugs and four of them have the double nuts to hole the SS wheel cover in place. I just pull off the four nut covers, undo the four nuts, and the wheel cover pops off.
  • Interesting, I've been able to check air pressure in all ties on our coach with wheel covers ON.

41 MM is 1 and 10/16 inch are you sure

I've remove the two required with large channel locks in the past and mine are marked with an indentation mark.
Having the right kind of valve extensions is the thing to have, though.
  • Just took mine off. Fleetwood Bounder. 1 1/8 inch socket.
