Which dog ramp for class A mh?

This is the RAMP we use for our Great Dane. We put it on the third step. We have had it for a few years now.

Another vote for the Petstep ramp. We've had three mastiffs use our Petstep ramp with no problems (185lb, 175lb, and 165lb). It has survived years worth of use with multiple vehicles.

I think it would take more than a hinge between two pieces of plywood to make a secure ramp for 85 pounds of dog. Also enough plywood to make that size ramp with some type of stiffeners to keep it straight would be pretty heavy. But it would be cheaper.

We used a Solvit Ramp with our 45 lb Wheaton Terrier.

Now training our puppy to use it so will have no fears when the time comes.

It will work on a car, house steps, or motorhome steps.

But, in our case it eliminated only the outside motorhome steps. I put indoor/ourdoor carpet on the interior steps for the dog's better traction.

A cheaper alternative to the Petstep would be to use 2 pieces of 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch plywoood with a hinge between the two halves. Cover with a piece of carpet for traction. When not in use, fold in half and store.

When I was a kid, I had a boxer who used ladders. She could climb up the ladders at the park jungle gym, attic ladders, etc. Watching her climb a ladder was amazing. She also rode on the merry-go-round, went down slides, and used the swings. I haven't met a dog since with that dexterity.

You have not seen a large dog with arthritis in hips. It is either a ramp or lift. Yes the dog will give it all she/he has and it is not fun to watch the failure.

And they will hurt themselves trying too. My Golden Retriever does not like being on the disabled list. If I let he'll try and get up the steps and end up falling backwards. Steps are made for people with two legs to climb. They are not designed for four legs. Large dogs will normally jump from step to step versus walk up one leg at a time with both sets of legs.

Robert, we bought our dog ramp at Costco! Are Siberian Husky (53 lbs.) could hardly walk and the ramp helped her get in and out of the coach! Good Luck in whatever you choose to buy!

We've been through several large geriatric dogs and have tried the ramp that DogFolks referred to. It is well built and strong, but I found constantly setting up and taking down the ramp became cumbersome. Every time people left the MH the ramp had to be moved then set up for the dogs.

I eventually developed the technique of giving them a boost with a hand between the rear legs going up (the male required some training, the females were fine) then going down I used a towel sling around the belly.

Whatever works for you, just giving another option.
