DISH receiver location question...

I had another question concerning the satellite system from DISH and their payment options.

It can be seen here:

www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/27191210.cfm

I think I may be reaching a resolution based on a few members advice and now I have a second question.

Our main goal for wanting to add a satellite TV is to be able to take a large screen TV outside under the awning and watch Fall football games.

My questions is this:::

Will I need to take my receiver outside also? I assume this satellite setup is just like my cable receiver at home and I must change the channels on the receiver, not the TV.

If I leave the receiver inside the trailer, will the remote operate it through the walls and be able to change the channels?

The more I work towards getting a satellite system, the less it seems that I will work for what we want!!!

Thanks,

Jerry

Short answer is no, you don't need to put the receiver outside UNLESS.

If it's a BIG screen, you may want to feed it HDMI, this means you will either need to put the receiver near the TV or run HDMI cables through your RV to the TV compartment outside.

But you also want a coax feed to the box of many buttons inside.

NOW:... Radio Shack used to sell a "I/R Remote Extender" I have one and some day will install it (or may install it)

There are two types of this device.. one works by converting I/R to radio and then converting it back to I/R (infra Red by the way)

The other converts it to low frequency signals send over the COAX that carries the RF to the TV. (That's what I have)

But wait,, there is more (Good news)

IF you have a Dish DVR with dual receivers and TWO remotes.

Remote 2 is Radio already, forget everything above and feed output two to the outside TV.

I use a DISH Network model 722VIP reciever, attached to a Trav'lr dish on the roof near the front of my Class A. The reciever outputs to a distribution panel via the SAT input. This distribution panel then outputs to each television in my rig including my outside TV.

My 722VIP has two remotes, one "line of site" and one "radio frequency".

I set the TV to channel 3 and use the RF remote to change sat channels on what ever TV I am watching.

Get a long HDMI cable and leave the receiver inside, and use an RF remote.

    Good luck,

    Jim

You do have sat dish right?

My dual tuner 322 has the #2 tuner with IFR controller and will go through walls. I just move it from my house to my RV when I leave for awhile.

I used to pay annually but they changed and only do monthly now. Noticed the priced went up a lot at their monthly rate too.

No. Through a window, maybe. It's a beam of light.

  • You can move the TV outside but you are going to need a very long HDMI cable is you want to be able to watch HD while outside.
If your remote does not work while outside you can buy an IR repeater for about 50 bucks and plug it into and outside power source (maybe where you plugged in the TV) and it will feed the IR signal to your inside receiver via RF.
This is the one I have used.
