Dish Tail Gater for ever REAUTHORIZING

Same issue here and we don't have any sat signal at the house so leaving it up and running is not really an option. I agree they should have a web option (even Verizon has this for their cable boxes to reset them) to complete this. I also use the chat option over calling in to their call center.

Both DirecTV and Dish receivers will "go to sleep" after somewhere about 30 days of seeing no signal from the satellite. This is a security issue built into the receivers to try to cut down on theft of services issues and it cannot be avoided unless you get that receiver on line at least a couple of days per month.
DirecTV you can re-authorize online. Dish you cannot. Don't try to figure a way around it, just understand that it is what it is and the criminals have made it tough for us non-criminals. Do what you must (how tough is a phone call or chat session anyway!) when you leave your receiver disconnected for an extended period or don't leave your receiver disconnected for an extended period. The choice is yours.

I agree that the phone system can be a pain - especially because it seems like aren't that familiar with the RV "pay as you go plan".a lot of the phone personnel If you go on the DishTV webpage, you can contact them in a "chat window" instead of calling them. I find that the people on the other end understand written English much better than spoken English. I usually do it from my iPhone, and it only takes a few minutes to give them my current address and get them to do the original start up or when on the road to switch the local programing.

I just tell them it is in the motorhome and need a reset signal sent,only a few minutes.

It IS "best" to ALWAYS keep your Dish Receiver "active" by hooking it up to a dish AND POWER at home when not camping.

Not sure as to the time frame allowed with no signal/power but when I got mine the installer specifically stated that it NEEDS to get the nightly updates (2AM) on a regular basis. If allowed to be unpowered too long it will get to far behind on the updates and eventually you would need to call Dish to get reauthorized.

I keep mine on a UPS at home to minimize brownouts and power outages to mine also which can possibly corrupt the firmware or Hard Drive.

My suggestion is when you get home connect the receiver to your existing home dish or if you don't have a home dish at least setup your portable dish at home and keep your setup powered..

I have to call them occasionally.
I tell the rep it has been turned off too long and I need him/her to send a signal to my receiver. I may also tell them the error code on the screen.

We do not have to go through their script.
Only takes a couple minutes.

I wonder if we are calling the same number/department?

We use ours for both TT and cabin and have to do the reset often - Just tell them to ship the silly checklist and reset the the receiver. Most will do it, if they won't hang up and try someone else

Chat's good too. I like to see more tech help doing that instead of the dreaded "we're sorry, all operators are busy" phone calls. Then listening to endless commercials and distorted music before being transferred 4 times.

If left off for something in excess of a month, it loses its "authorization". I typically run into the same problem a time or two each year. Although it generally only takes me about a 2-3 minute phone call to get it reauthorized. But another 15 minutes for the 211k/tailgater to cycle thru its power up procedure again.
I have not tried the on line support, but have heard it works well also. You can go to a chat page on the mydish.com/support web site and request technical help via the chat window at the bottom of the page.

I have complained/recommended that Dish have a way to reauthorize receivers on line, like you can do with XM radio, but they have not done this, if direct can do it then Dish should do it.
